One aspect of online play I would like to see is the mini map disappears after deployment. I know you can f5 etc but if the map goes you left to find your enemy.
Just thought it a bit more realistic than being able to see eveything on little map. Makes ambush more likely no ?

Excellent post.

When we play Myth 2, we have a game variant called "blind". The overhead radar is turned off (hey- did samurai have radar?) and we are left to our own devices.

This is the same reason I always choose "heavy fog" when given a chance. Basically, most players dont have the tactical/strategic skill to play without the radar; and it really shows when its foggy!

I never really looked at radar except to see the AI gen hiding in the woods.. little blinking beacon so I could draw a bead on him..

I Agree, Orda Khan!

Mini map should disappear after deployment, or we should be able to see only restrickted near area of the mini map radar..
And our scouter should explore the map.(e.g. like Starcraft)
Good idea.

Hardly ever use it myself, but it would be more realistic if it wasn't there at all.

I suppose though it is good if your opponent has a few stray units and the timer is about to run out...

You want to really add an element of surprise make it so the blinking beacon can be separated from your general and placed manually...as a decoy http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

You guys DO realize of course that only units that you actually CAN SEE show up on the radar, right?

Our Khan of Khans, Great Khan MagyarKhan uses the minimap once in a while when visibility is bad, have to plan certain moves and focussing on a part of the battle while threatend himself elsewhere.

it would be nice if the minimap would be a part of the hosting-slider-option aas well. but it aint relaly important.

u could say without is more realistic, but a cav unit attacked by spears without u noticing it isnt realistic as well. the yaricav commander should back up. since we dont have intelligent subcommanders u have to do all micromanaging yourself, so everything that eases that job is welcome

I never use the radar. When is foggy radar might point the enemy unit nearby but u don't know what it is and how many units are coming at ya!

well if the khan has problems with micromanagement in the fog then i don't think that getting rid of the radar is a good idea.

Very good idea, OrdaKhan.

However, in order to balance with the gameplay, I would suggest limiting the visible information on the mini-map to one's general's view. Height of Ground, Unit type, Fatique, Morale, Weather, Time of day..., may all be the factor deciding the displaying area in the minimap.

In addition, perhaps the general's visibility on the mini-map should also be taken away/ made optional.

Thanks for the replies. I agree with Vas, the general's banner flashing away not good. It is possible to enlarge mini map so you can pick out individual units too.
Magyar Khan's point about the spears is another one plus the fact units like spears won't attack cavalry who are killing another unit nearby. Like they in a trance...perhaps they are.
I may be wrong but I'm sure when all deployed in online game, say 3v3 all six armies appear on little map while not quite clear on battle map.
I just fancied the idea of having some army swoop down on my men from a hiding place. Would be fun but maybe no good for the nerves eh?

They'll swoop down on your men just as well/poorly with/without the radar map. It has no bearing on this.
