Whenever I play, about 5 minutes in, the game starts getting choppy and sluggish. I've had it for a year now, and after I downloaded the RS mod and installed it, it seems to have ruined my RTW and M2TW games completely.
I don't know what's the cause of it, no error comes up when I close the game. I even uninstalled the mod in question, deleted every trace of RTW and M2TW afterwards, and reinstalled them fresh. Same result happened. Can anyone help?

And another note is I've always run the game quite smoothly, and have never had problems.
Free space in disk.
Come here if the error persists.

My disk has 41 Gigs left out of 80. That's too little?

No, that isnt little,
how much programs you run when you run RTW?

Hi seignthelas,
It, most unfortunately, seems that a combination of horrible R:TW and M2:TW memory leak bugs and having a large number of memory theiving programs running in the background, is resulting in a large slow down in performance. To enhance your PC, hopefully removing the horrible memory thieving background processes that are resulting in the slow down, simply follow this guide. Hope this helps, cheers!
BTW, the guide is currently unavailable - the site seems to be enduring a downtime, my sincere apologies.

Same as usual, they amount to maybe 100 MB of a GB of RAM. And I think a 256 MB RAM Graphic Card (NVidia GeForce Go 7300) if not, 128 MB. Either way, it's worked for a year, and after the mod went kaput. I got rid of every trace of it and reinstalled the game, still no luck.

I would say I agree but it runs smoothly for 5 or 10 minutes then just stops running smoothly.

I would say I agree but it runs smoothly for 5 or 10 minutes then just stops running smoothly.Unfortunately that's the memory leak bug that is built in with R:TW and M2:TW. Over time, they require more and more memory to run, so, eventually when it all runs out, the game begins to run choppily and slowly. If you have a small amount of RAM and plenty of running processes, often, that memory, runs out extremely quickly.

Is it possible to fix it?

Is it possible to fix it?
again just a copy post from OMANES ALEXANDRAPOLITES:
Rebooting your PC does not seem to increase your R:TW performance, but re-starting R:TW after a few hours most certainly optimizes performance! R:TW features a huge and nasty memory leak bug which is a complete PC hogger on lower tech PCs after a certain length of time. Re-starting R:TW removes it's horrible effects and prevents it from dominating your system resources, causing the game to CTD.

I've restarted Rome, it only gives me 5 more minutes of gameplay before it gets sluggish again.

Unfortunately, that Strat Command Centre Guide is still down, so I can't provide that link as I am going on vacation in approximately five miniutes. However, when it does come back up, to get to the guide, first you need to go here (http://www.stratcommandcenter.com/) and then click on Total War Command Centre. After that, simply click on tech-guide and your in! Hope this helps, cheers!

I'd recommend updating Rome to 1.5 too, if you haven't. It fixes a few of the memory leak problems on the Campaign Map, etc.

I'll try that, thanks, which other patches come before that?
1.5 is the latest patch for Rome.If you have BI the latest is 1.6

Make sure to patch up to 1.3 first, before you install patch 1.5
If you have BI than installing BI will patch RTW automatically up to 1.3. Afterwards, install patch 1.6 which is an update for both RTW and BI.

The 1.6 patch seemed to fix the memory leak for me....my latest game has been on since last night, and I can still go right back into it without any lag....that wasn't the case before I got the patch.
So the 1.5/1.6 patch will probably help a lot....I don't have m2tw yet, so I'm not sure about that.
