Copying and pasting from TWC:

Well as i revealed in the Next TW game thread, after beign for 2 interviews and a follow up meeting i have a job at CA as an inhouse Games Tester starting on June 18th.

I will be working at the Creative Assembly office at Southwater, and it's a full time job. I'm hoping to move into Games Design eventually as one of my interviews was for that but my lack of experience i believe stopped me from getting the job.

This does mean that i know a bit more than most people about how the dev process works as i've had it explained to me, and once i start i'll know all about the next TW game(which i'll likely be working on most) but will be bound by a confidentality agreement.

I'll also try to post as much on the forums as i can, and try to get involved in community related stuff, as my work on the forums and modding is the reason i've got the job.

I was going to leave posting this until i started work, but now i have posted about it in the other thread i thought i might as well make a general thread about it as well.

This is great news for most Orgahs, who I suspect - like me - really like the work you've done modding and rebalancing TW.

Remember that if you ever need an assistant to brew up, tidy the desk, sharpen the pencils, lead the charge, operate the trebuchet etc etc.......
You know where to find volunteers. Very low recruitment cost, free up keep.

It might all be a conspiracy theory to stop the gradual depreciation in the value of unmodded M2TW since LTC was released, but it's a damn good one :laugh4:

Not if he's a real modder he doesn't. A real modder tweaks, tests, then tweaks some more, and never ever finds the time to actually play because he's just found out about a nifty little line of code or a weird variable hidden somewhere in some obscure file that, if fiddled with, could change the face of the game. :laugh4:

And we all know he's a great modder, don't we ?

Im sure you'll manage to get the contacts anyway.

And thank you guys for all your nice comments.

But please bear in mind i'll be working on the next TW project, and i'll be tightly bound by NDA. When it's announced officially(i don't even know what it is yet) i'll try and provide as much info as i can, but i'll be limited by NDA. I know some of you will look on this as an opportunity for insider info, but im gonna be bound by NDA just like all the other devs.

How much does CA pay its game testers? Give a ballpark figure if you can't be specific, 40-50k? 60-80? 80-100+?

I really hope your talking in American dollars. The games industry pays wellbut not amazingly so. Testers wages vary between £15k and £20k, Designers vary between about £20K and £28K.

It pays more in the US. I've got an atricle somewhere... could'nt find it in all these bookmarks. Can pay as high as 70+K USD (IIRC) there. That is still lower than other industry standards but it is very decent.

Money is important but to do with your days what you wish to do, is priceless.

I know many people who work for video game developers (all in the US) and the salaries vary wildly depending on the position. Testers and low level developers (The guys who do most of the work - writers, artists, and coders) are paid pretty poorly (lowest I heard was $10/hr for QA). Decent salaries start appearing at the managerial and conceptual levels. That said, I've seen my friends advance through the ranks of their companies and achieving a good salary seems like simply a matter of working hard enough for a company for long enough. Of course, your company also has to manage to succeed commercially... which is not always the case for game developers.

I'm a web developer and I earn £32k p.a. anyways, in this one its closer to home. I would personally stay away from game companies, notoriously low paid :)
However,
