I hope there is no Geisha capable unit in the MTW and no one man army in MTW. *crosses my fingers*

I think something "geshia-like" is included. It is for the ones who cannot complete the game with an army, then they need something "almost" cheat. The "geshia". Such a software company have to think of the dude with bad strategical sense, but with a eager lust to play !
They should just put cheat codes for people like that instead of adding unrealistic stuff like that into a realistic game. Most ninja and assassin stories are just myths and usually the cause is some sickness related to the lifestyle of the dead guy. During those times, when honor is important, dying in battle and to assassins is better sounding than reporting that king this or general that drank, smoked or orgied themselves out of existence. I guess they are fun for some people but it is annoying for something unrealistic to become an important factor in a realistic game.
A visit by the Grand Inquisitor was taken by most to be a death sentence for sure.
Looks like we have our assassin... at least for the Catholics...

I would think that assasination in medieval won't be so easy. What l wanna say is that if you take out a king for some time there might be a civil war to decide who is gonna take the throne and then is your time. I don't think nations will be wiped-out just cause u killed the king and he wasn't getting busy with the queen http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

I cannot return l presume so l will keep my name among those who are dead by bows!

Perhaps the Old Man of the Mountains will be usable? Assassins would be an interesting faction to play, tho' they need a different kind of victory conditions.

i have no evidence of this but i don't think assasins were particularly common in med times. people preferred clever marriage tactics to murder.

A quick survey of the org seems to show a small majority in favour of being assassinated to being married. Close tho'. The assassins were an important force before the Mongols flattened them, more importantly they have enough style to sell a few more copies of the game.
One of the appeals of Medieval is it's realism. Take that away and the game is less appealing to its core audience. I don't think assassins were common anywhere. They are mostly a product of literature like ninjas in Japan. Using *ahem* martial arts to kill is a big joke as they are more like gymnastic sports than effective fighting styles.
The most likely assassination attempts that were done are taking advantage of the confusion in battle to kill an enemy general or shooting at somebody parading in the streets. Attacking somebody inside an encampment or a castle is next to impossible.

Assination wasn't that uncommon in Medieval times: Karl of Navarra was famous for his assissination attempts with poison. The duke of Brittany made an attempt to kill the French king's first minister twice. These assasinations were usually ambushes: a bunch of thugs waited for the victim to exit the pub and then killed him and his compagnons.

wasn't it more common for assasinations to be ordered by people in the same country like in 'la reigne margot' rather than a foreign king ordering the assasination of another country's prince.
