View Full Version : My balista fell off the bridge!!

Well I was in a large-small(early game) battle with Venice on a bridge scenario.
As the title says, I had 2 pairs of balista and I decided to use it against the Italians sitting dumbly accross the bridge.

But to get within range, I had to cross about 1/4 of the bridge. No problem, the Venetians didn't seem to react at all. But then I noticed my balista crew dying. The venetian archers were idle. I panned to my balista and saw the crew all hugging the side of the bridge and then disappearing 1 by 1, not falling, just disappearing.
I tried to move the balista so that the crew would stay in the middle, but as all narrow bridge battles, its virtually impossible to navigate and my seige engine ultimate ends up disappearing as well.

I believe its a collision issue on the bridge but anyway this bug cost me many men. Unfortunately, I forgot to take any screenies so just try to imagine it.

That is just terrible. No way to fix it, to my knowledge, it just sucks. Kind of like the ol' 2-hand bug-- fixes can help, but the problem persists until CA changes it on their part.

It happened to me too. I had just depleted my first unit's ammo, and was moving them back off the bridge to make room for my second two ballistae. Next thing I know, while I wasn't watching, they just sort of melted through the bridge wall and appeared in the water below.

At first a few of the engineers were standing under water and still moving, but they eventually just stopped and fell over dead.

Just a pathfinding issue, but still strange to have happen.

Seriously though supadodo, crossing a bridge with arty is hit or miss, the pathing in the game even at 1.02 is still pretty awful. Best thing I'd offer is just don't do it. Make them come to you and always adopt a defensive posture when fighting on bridges, that's what's served me best so far. Good luck!

Here's the Amphibious Trebuchet link

Sadly only one screenshot left alive

The curious thing was that the crew must have had some sort of primitive breathing apparatus as they started dying only when their whole army began to flee.
