I am curious if they are as nasty to you all as they seem to me..happiness above 120, excommunicated, normal taxes on most provs as I was at war with England & Castile due to a Papacy started Crusade against me

I chose the rebels since my loyalist line were a bunch of low influence, low star flunkies...The year before I sent 3 full stacks and took Castile with my best generals, who became loyalists...3 provs for me, 5 for Louis IV

the year was 1200...

Castile about 5 years later went poof when their line died, and those loyalist generals then became Castilian and stopped attacking me (thankfully) when Castile showed back up about 1215

About 1225, the HRE started to collapse due to a massive push by the Cumans (my allies) and so I took Provence, Savoy, Burgundy and Lorraine

So off of Castile I still have Navarre/Aragon
off of the Genoses I still have Corsica
and the HRE I have the above

so the year is 1249 and the civil war is over and France emerges with a much better situation than before...but I need to rebuild a bunch!

++++

Question

Ae these damn things always this nasty when they hit?

Yes, I think your experience was pretty typical. Civil wars are usually fairly brutal....which is part of why I like them. ~D
