there seems to be alot of 'ronin' post makers in here who seem to know an awful lot about the game...and maybe its me but they also seem to be very ready to back the new game whenever a critic pops up..

Am I just imagining this or has anybody else noticed..try reading the thread about colours of units by OrdaKhan for example....highly Total War educated thread makers and many of them very new.

I dont just mean the SP types ...there are some over educated threads by people with maybe 5-15 posts to their name..

makes you think...well it made me think anyway.

CA promotion?

Good observation Monsta, I can reveal u that they are on teh GWIS list to keep an eye on.

You could ask your mate Tera to check some IP's.

But after all a little hyping aint wrong, they have a family and a house and a costly wife as well.

While your thinking mate has it occured to you that you might be thinking too much.
Perhaps you should check the following tell tail signs of being paranoid.

1.Do you here voices and footsteps in the night.
2.Do you have 6 locks on each door and bolts on the window.
3.Have you several UZI's Ak-47's M-16's and Samurai swords on the gounds of protection in case of a robbery.
4.To allow people to enter your house do they need to give you a codeword.
5.Do you strip search visitors when they enter your house.
6.Is yoru house an old cold war bunker built 50 feet below the ground.
7.You work for a security firm and employ most of its employees as personal secuirty and bodyguards.
8.You monitor the hubble space craft to intercept covert transmissions that may or may not be about you.
9.You wife/girlfreind slash children must be shaven bold to prevent them from concealing weapons.
10.You prowl the internet checkign out forums that may or may not contain secret consirpaicys that the goverment is trying to keep under wraps.

If so seek a good therapist and oh yes go out in daylight(good for you skin)

Or has this post made you more paranoid.

no Azza, Monsta is right. ALthough instead of using the situation to his own benefit by adressing/asking things in teh forum and try to communicate with teh fellow-forummember to his own benefit Monsta just posted his feeling about this.

/em chuckles lots

All the power of the internet at your disposal and paranoia wins out?

(if you check back to 2000 and STW you'd find me in the Unofficial FAQ for Shogun and a few other bits and pieces. [hell i remember this site stating up and used to post on it back then] And a google search against my posting name should throw out the odd article on MMOG gaming amongst other things.. i was also one of the 3 folks who won the original Shogun competition when the first game launched - damn i thought you "experts" knew your STW history )

Im a freelance writer and review pc games - mainly online ones (MMOGs) but im a big fan of the TW series also... you can read a preview of the last build of the game which i've played over at gamesdomain.com (should go up sometime this week)

I figured folks would appreciate the info from first hand experience - seems i was mistaken, i'll stick to the ezboard forum hence forward and leave you to your paranoia and guessing what its like here ;-/

Just a thought about the 'non demo folk'..as Eddie Murphy said...give a starving man a plain craker and he will swear its a Ritz...

Taste my Demo *pulls away* oh no you dont.
Taste it *pulls away* no no no..
Taste my Demo *lets you taste*....now you tasted best demo ever!..

even though to be honest you aint missing much......but the want is sometimes greater than the need or the actual satisfaction of getting!

Hypers should be sent to Gilbert the Gillo at our site....let the game do the talking ..cos if it aint good enough without their help...CA should sharpen those pencils and go back to the drawing board..cos your awards mean nothin to me...or maybe tell the truth...

BTW will the 'official site' actually serve a purpose in the future rather than 'news' being update once every 2 months?

no offence to you....just saying what i saw.

Monsta means no harm.....just the nature of the beast....excuse please...dont let me stop you from telling the masses great news...

People often misundesrtand the difference between "preview" and "review".

In a "preview" you write it based on the assumption that all the bugy bits and naff bits get fixed by the time the game is released (yeah i know they never do but...)

Previews are thus "never" that objective - they cant be after one day of playing with a rep showing you all the good bits can they?

"Reviews" are where you get to be totally objective - and that's about 2 weeks AFTER the game's been released and you've hammered it into the ground finding all the crappy bits.

MTW is at the "preview" stage... I could say "geez this game suX0rs" but i'd be lieing - from what i saw it rocks with only a few reservations :

1: The Campaign game might just be TOO big (wont bother fans but may put off newcomers to the series)

2: Its so deep in places that a couple of campaign game moves could take you an hour once you have a biggish empire (depends how much attention to the intricate details you pay)

3: The Battle AI "seems" far superior but is it really? (and you cant judge that on one day's play)

4: The Campaign Ai "seems" far better but is it really? (and you cant judge that on on one days play and an incomplete build)

Preview = This game Rocks
Review = We need to play it more to see if it gloss or real quality.

Now if you're really interested in intimate details just aska bout the RPG element and Generals Ai and effects on both the campaign map and in Battle... its an entire saga and almost sub-game in itself.

very nice for SP...

how about the fact that Harry the server guy would die if anymore than 100 players came on-line.

WE the on-line few...have no doubt introduced at least 3-5 people each to the game...and helped with mods/patches/maps/ideas etc....payed money just like the SP types...when do we get at least the respect that many players of other games get...

somebody (whom indeed!) when 'reviewing' the game should talk to us and make sure that the buying public knows what its like to be left in the cold without even a note on the why the server is down/why people cannot register/why the patches that are promised never come etc

just a simple 'sorry we have tech problems....Harry is off sick.....sorry the patch is late....sorry the tourneys we promised will never happen...it just respect to the paying masses..nothing more.

You mean the "online multiplayer" aspects of the game?

hmmm - hard call that. I only ever played the MP side of things when the game first came out - tbh the chat interface and matching service was absolutely atrocious and the network code not much better - laggy, limited and far too repetitive for my own tastes... how its progressed since inception in STW i dont know as i couldn't be even bothered to try it with Warlords etc. (im not a "League" sort of person and the MP side of things was always more of a "gloss" aspect [imo])

Mind you I'd love to see an online version of the campaign game for MP or something of "that nature" - anything more than the straight "sit up n beg" head-to-head stuff.

As far as MTw is concerned obviously there is no MP as yet - so i dont know how good or bad it is either.

But if you mean "Do I know how much it sucked?" then the answer is "yes i do".

Tell you what though - get me a list of the top-ten things you'd want sorted for MP in MTW and i'll ask CA/Activision what they are doing about it - I may be off to see them next wednesday so you've a week to get a top ten.

(You're right though Rage, I don't know how/what the small[?] online player community thinks about the MP status - good point that. Gimme a summary of the problems and that top-ten and i'll try to remedy my lack of knowledge in that area)

(Entirely serious offer btw - in hindsight i realise that i didn't ask a single question about MP and just took note of the fact that H2H was in for LAn and NET..hmmmmm)

2.Do you have 6 locks on each door and bolts on the window.

What windows?

No one allowed.

5.Do you strip search visitors when they enter your house.

6.Is yoru house an old cold war bunker built 50 feet below the ground.

NO human contact, because as you know, there only a few "humans" left.

Just replieing to magyarkhans two posts.First why bother checking peoples ip.Whats it going to accomplish. So what if a certain player has more knowledge than his given posting time on a forum would suggest he has. There is undoubtly several vets who don't even post.Who cares if its old vets who want to remain hidden its there right.Maybe people are just more intelligent that you think or maybe there saying what they have read in magazines or off other players or just letting on they know stuff cause they just want to have your opionon heard and have no clue as to what there talking about. And final who the hell made you lot the supreme athority when it coems to to total war. What next we all have to swear alligance to vets all our converstations monitored and video camera's planted in our houses.
Look at the orginal post its utter nosense it really is this is a game or does the total war world attract just about every paranoid and delusional player thats online.

The more I look at the post the more rediculous it seems.

What the bit were he says a little hyping is nothing wrong?

Yes I too can see the paranoia and delusions

* Nods head vigourously, smiles nervously and walks shakely backwards.

----

Although I have not been able to play against Mag (Damn my inability to get past my firewall), I have heard that he has the reputation of most feared player in MP. So it would seem he is in the same league as the supreme player in MP if not the actual one himself.

----

The IP addresses may match that of a certain company thereby being a semi-proof of a hype/marketing message rather then a non bia$ed fan who loves the game. Is it paranoid to believe a company may send out reviews like that. Well maybe in a world where Nike sells $100 dollar sweat shirts made in sweat factories anything is possible.

----

All paranoid and delusional compliements should be directed towards myself and my fellow Australians particularly DP who will one day be a marketer for Nike in Britain promoting the British football team as the worlds best http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Now this forum has a better flavour....since Monsta added a lttile spice....Writer man Dragon....you seem to be the kind of person we need...(well at the moment)

MizuYuuki
MizuTosa
MagyarKhan

(and a couple of others)

have a nice balance of ideas and experience...hopefully these 3 can give you some ideas about what we need/should have/wouldlike/demand/give now/the puppy gets it otherwise...

Not to say other opinions are not valued... please take note of their thoughts.although if Tera asks for the word 'Kenchi' to be flashed up as you enter a game please ignore him... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

I can see this thread growing.sadly Monsta leaves for a while but hopefully I have done my bit for the Mp geezers.

BTW we know on line campaign cannot be done..but you should take note about the self made campaign (pioneered by Magyar et al)....a work of greatness....and CA etc did not even blink an eye...there is still a link somewhere to the web site...we had about 10+ clans at war......the best thing to be developed here or anywhere in the gaming world (imho)..Magyar will hopefully direct you to the campaigns home.

It would be nice just to have them say...'good job' have a free game winner of the game....if i made a game and saw somebody putting effort into it and morphing the structure into something very well developed..I would like to award them...wouldnt you?

That's true. Notker and Tarrak have been regular visitors and posters there. There's a lot of different names over at the .com forum now, and many don't bother posting here.

Even Darkmoor_Dragon, who has a 60 post thread going there already.

Hehe, a newbie here might be considered a vet over there....

One note on the information anybody can give you from the demo or previous beta builds... Even the demo doesn't represent the current state of the game. There already have been a couple of developments since. Remember how the STW demo played, and how it compared to the game when it was released?

Most of the time I use .com and not the .org (sorry guys)

Most of my posting is done first thing in the morning, before work (but from work) - Unfortunatly my works server blocks totalwar.org but it allows me to access ezboards.

I find this is quite and interesting thread, and I agree with the point earlier, In my opinion .org has a different bunch of people than we have over at .com

Good point Erado and ultra-true; its always worth remembering that even the game builds that "journo's" get to see aren't the finished article - simply "the latest viewable beta build", someone may see the next build before another's preview goes live, and so on and so forth.

More importantly though its only 6 hours until England play Brazil and (hopefully) go on to the semi finals!

06-21-2002, 12:14
Well...

The new game is based on Medieval times. And many, most poeple are gifted with a good knowledge of the theme in question...it is not surprising that 'intelligent' posts by noobs are common...Shogun was different...when I was a noob I heard the name 'Tokugawa Ieyasu' and wondered if it was a species of whale or something http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif while who didn't hear of Robin Hood or the crusades? Only the minions of the lowest level of the Vortex...maybe.

A note on .COM - the discussions are quite all on Single-Player and it is understandable...there are no/few MP veterans there. On here we have a lot of MP Players that play this game for years...hence discussions on MP tend to be common; altough almost abstract since few information was released. Mostly guesswork and 'hopes'. On the tactical and technical/stats level and game-wise I think this forum has clearly the upper hand...the affluence of many good MP players has its effects. However on the historical and SP side of the game, .COM has some excellent discussions...I visit it regularly altough don't post much....because it probably fills the vacant space found in this forum...I am happy the .COM guys visit here; their experience of the game would be more than half empty if not.

Tera.

The .com colors hurt my eyes. Someday soon, instead of receiving ergo- dynamics for proper keyboard, mouse and monitor positions.... they will release a color advisory. Don't they teach somewhere in the vastness of art schools, that you should NEVER use 100% saturation levels on the primary colors?

I like my eyesight, thank you.
