View Full Version : Shogun - flickering menu screens
The title pretty much describes the problem. The introductory menu screens flicker like crazy. I've had the problem now for years. Different graphics cards, different CPUs, different motherboards, different versions of Shogun - but same problem. Tried changing the refresh rate - didn't work. Any ideas ?
Hello Vlodec, welcome to the Org ~ . The answer to this post (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?p=1370957#post1370957) would be a good place to start looking for a solution. IIRC the linked thread mentions multiple solutions, which is good because I know the firewall solution didn't work in my case. If this doesn't help, you can try searching the Apothecary and Tech Library (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=13).
Welcome Vlodec to the Org,
the most likely cause (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?p=835183#post835183)
second most likely cause is buggy audio codec.
(cannot find a thread, but there IS a buggy audio codec in ACEMegaCodecPack that trashes shogun - i uninstalled that and it fixed a lot of problems.)
random advice here - graphics issues (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=43620)
and just FYI, i STILL get flashing menu backgrounds, but not every time.
(i suspect it is my video card that shogun does not like)
I am afraid i just live with it, it's only in the entry/exit, not during the actual campaign.

I've had a similar problem with a GeForce 5200 - was sorted simply by setting the graphics resolution to 800x640, but STW has all sorts of problems with modern hardware. Good luck!
after setting the monitor to 75 hz it worked for me ... even the movies were wierd whit higher than 75 Hz ... first i thought my monitor gave up the ghost ...
whit win XP 2nd. my best bet on any sys is 1024*786 desktop 75 Hz 16 bit .. same resolution in the game - there is a video option to use hardware or software this helps sometimes but not always.. on manny pc-s if it is not like this it will not start CTD - crash to desktop is the better wariant, in some cases like pc whit 16 MB vid it freezes needind restart -, funny thing is the game does not use that much of your machine ... sys requirements were if i recall 233 MHz 4 MB vid and 64 Ram ... on my first sys 166 / 4 / 64 Shogun did run for 5 years :P - playabel not constand freezes and frame losses -
as i`m far from beeing an expert, i only can say
Vlodec,
