Im at war with the HRE (As denmark) Im easily winning the war, although its been dragging on mainly because there mass peasent armies are frequent, but easily defeated, there always exucuted, unless there worth more 750 then I ramsom

Anyway, recently the pope died, meaning the end of my exumanacation, and im still having a war with HRE, and pope tells me to end hostities with in 8 turns, problem is, i've been trying to cease fire for the last 13 turns, i've treid everything, but in the end they say "Only a Dummkopf would accept this" Which is kinda silly because "Only a dummkopf would attempt to make me vassal even though im kicking there peasent armies ass" so im in quite a tricky suitiation, any help? :help:

Actually, when his Holiness with the biggest hat wants you to end hostilities, he only wants you not to attack ze germans.
You don't need a formal ceasefire.

With that sig, you'd bloody well better be Mexican yourself.

Heck, even if you are, it's still completely offensive.

I agree totally, it really is.

On topic though, they'll say no if your rep stinks (which, if you're at war with more than one person and don't have a stack of alliances, it will).
and you've not smashed a bunch of their provinces recently or massively outclass them militarily. Actually, they'll often say no even if you do outclass them hugely, just because they want to get their asses handed to them. Go figure.

I've found that if a faction is getting kicked and won't accept ceasefire without outrageous conditions attached (eg 150k florins), and its priority displays as 'peace', try offering to make it a vassal instead. Apparently when the AI is weak enough to accept vassalage, it won't take better deals like ceasefires. Just offer vassalage and maybe trade rights, no money or the 'reject suspiciously generous offers' code kicks in and throws out the deal.

Noted.

Back on topic...

I think if you're at war with their ally, they'll almost never accept a ceasefire, problem is neither will the ally because you're at war with their ally who won't accept a ceasefire because you're at war with their ally and so on and on... Oh, and when you defeat one of them, they still won't affect because they don't know their ally is gone forever. After you dealt them a lot of punches or if you somehow manage to improve your relations, you can sometimes still get a ceasefire. If you beat four of their full stacks in a round or so, I think they're more likely to accept. And setting their prisoners free helps with your relations and your overall reputation, mine is still trustworthy even though I am at war with many factions and have few allies, but all factions declared war on me.

I think you're right. I was once in war with Portugal and Denmark, which were allies. Although they were constantly beaten by my armies, they refused any peace talks. And I needed peace with Denmark so I can concentrate on France.
After I destroyed Portugal, Denmark easily accepted the vassalage.

I disagree. They know that their ally is history.

Actually, they don't.... There's a bug in the game which keeps it from knowing that their ally is dead. If you enter a marriage alliance with them, for example, you'll get a message saying that you have a cease-fire with the enemy you destroyed...

I remember seeing that in RTW (not with marriage alliance of course :beam: ). It is unbelievable that it's not fixed yet.

When the Denmark became my vassal, I didn't get the message of ceasefire with Portugal, Denmark's former ally which I destroyed, so I guess the bug doesn't happen every time...

Very specifically, when the pope tells you to end hostilities, he is only talking about you fighting on foreign soil. You can freely destroy enemy armies on your lands. You will get in trouble if you leave your armies in an enemy province and they attack you, or at least I had that happen to me in V1.1 a couple times.

You can maintain a siege or blockade during this mission. You cannot start a new one though. You can break a blockade your enemy has on your ports but you cannot attack their fleets directly without loosing status with his pointy hattedness.
