View Full Version : How to check for protectorates
Hi.
Does anyone know how do I check that a faction is a protectorate of another?
I don't know what's the practical results of being a protectorate, although I read that the "protected" faction cannot enter the "protector" faction's regions.
So, I want to make some rules in the EBBS file to give a better meaning to this thing:
1. If the "protected" faction is attacked by a third faction, the "protector" faction immediately changes the diplomatic status to War with that third faction. The "protected" faction is not obliged to make the same thing towards its "protector" (otherwise, there would be no gain in being "protected");
2. The "protected" faction loses a certain ammount of money each turn, which passes to the "protector" faction. This value should be around 5.000 to 10.000 Mnai per turn (depending on how much money assistance is being given to the AI in the EBBS file).
Thanks in advance for your help in this.
You seem to have a lot of creative and useful ideas maybe instead of going about this stuff on your own, maybe you should consider applying to join the team they said in the recruitment thread that they need scripters.
Keep up the good work, I really like the stuff you uncovered.:2thumbsup:

Thank you Redmeth.
Although I do this reseach/changes for pleasure, it's rewarding to know that some people value it and have more fun with this Mod when using this changes.

1. i think it's already implemented, but i could be wrong, since i haven't been a protectorate for a long time... :wall:
2. the protectorate already pays most of it's income to the protector
hope it's of some help
edit: to check the status of factions, go to the diplomacy screen, the protectorates are listed under each factions' tab

Thanks for your answer. However, I was not speaking of checking inside the game, but through scripting. Something like "...isProtectorate faction_protected faction_protector..."

I don't think you can. I believe that you can only check for diplomacy, but that doesnt allow you to check for protectorate status, only whether they are allied, friendly, neutral or at war. I believe it checks for the numbers, much in the same way as the diplomacy section in descr_strat.

Actually it's not implemented, plus the protectorate can break the alliance without a war. It's up to the campaign AI to respond to these things, which adds up to protectorates meaning nothing.

Well I do know that as long as you keep a faction as your protectorate you do receive some money. Not terribly much, unless you can pull off a miracle and get a decently sized faction to agree to be one. Just to see, I used Force Diplomacy to make the AS mine (they were down to 10-12 and no border with me) and I got about 30k extra per turn. No one's ever tried to make me their Protectorate, though.

I have in mind that having a protectorate somehow messes up your financial income/expenditure roll...
