Is it just me, or do others find that when the AI sieges a settlement it always assaults the the settelment after a couple of turns? I have never had a siege by the AI last until the settlement runs out of supplies, therefore having an automatic victory without going to battle. However, I have seen the AI lift the siege if I move a substantial force near it.

Using version 1.2 vanilla.

My experience is that the AI will always assasult if they have infantry. Pure calvary forces will wait you out though, which is why I usually try to get an alliance going with Poland if I'm anywhere near eastern europe. Getting besieged by a big pile of Polish Nobles is just evil. You usually can't sally, because they'll eat most any militia force alive in the open field. :furious3:

There's also the minor detail that auto-resolved sieges are bugged in favor of the attacker and the AI counts on you to auto-resolve.

I was going to say the same thing. I think the AI determines whether or not to assault based upon the autocalc calculations. If it appears that they have you beat, they'll try to waste no time and march in. The problem is, the autocalc doesn't take city/castle defenses into account whatsoever. Also, I think Horse Archers are bugged in autocalc as well...
