This was my favorite bar group back in my twenties and 30s. I started seeing them arounf 77-78 .Its still the best bar group Ive ever seen and IMO one of the best groups live period. The energy in the clubs here when they performed was unreal. When they finally sort of made it and released an album around 83 it sold like hot cakes here. In fact it out sold everything. I just would like to see what you all think of them and if you have ever heard them before.

If you like Zep you should like these guys. In fact I saw both in concert and these guys did Zep better. No lie. They are very Zep influenced and it was a major part of their bar act along with things by Rush but mostly it was their own original songs that everyone loved.

I ran into the lead singer the otherday and their going a show around here soon. The little guy.Felix went out with my wife before we met. She introduced me to them.

The Name of the band is Zebra

Gawain, I'll give 'em a listen when I have a few minutes. I've been on the look out for some "new" music.

Never heard of them but I shall give them a try when I've a bit more time. Thanks for the suggestion. Will respond after listening. (Probably this weekend. I hate school!)

Gawain, not bad. The songs are decent but of the little I saw of the accompanying videos, those were awful. Zebra is definitely an 80's band. Take Your Fingers from My Hair was pretty good but I really liked Who's Behind the Door? :2thumbsup:

Yes they are. Remember this was when MTV and all this stuff first started. These were promo videos and never released to my knowledge. None of these do the band justice.

You need to listen to this to see what they really sound like

zebra - album reviews
The Long Island, via New Orleans, trio Zebra broke from the gate with their eponymous first release, a record that was, at the time, one of Atlantic Records' fastest-selling debuts ever. Tapping into the vacuum left by Led Zeppelin's breakup, lead singer Randy Jackson and company gave the masses a good, healthy dose of Zeppelin-like hard rock. True, they are a pale imitation of their icons, but they pack enough requisite crunch into the album's nine tracks to make Zebra an enjoyable listen. The use of synthesizer dates the album, but they did manage to score a pair of radio hits with the driving "Tell Me What You Want" and "Who's Behind the Door?" which builds to a respectably thunderous climax. Jackson manages to do a decent approximation of Robert Plant's primal howl, although some of the lyrics ("The la la Song," "Take Your Fingers From My Hair") are embarrassingly self-conscious in their attempt to strive for the proper mix of mysticism and depth. ~ Tom Demalon, All Music Guide
