View Full Version : Help removing a unit
I need to know how to remove a unit from the game, because i need the space to add an extra unit to an army. I removed the information for the unit in unit_prod file but when i load the game it gives me the following error:
Unknown unit found in anti-units list: column 17, row 154
RhineGuardInfantry
I assume this is because i need to remove the reference to the unit from another file, however i have no idea which file thta is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that may refer to a column in the unit prod file. Ensure you've also removed it from the dismounts column and "units this unit is fearful of" column, if you've added it there.
If you're using the gnome editor, some of the "garbage" that it creates at the end of the file could also be causing the problem. Load it up in a good editor such as Notepad++, set tabs, spaces and carriage returns visible and remove the junk from the foot of the file. Ensure there is a carriage return at the end of the file. You will be able to search on a string to find the unit which is easier than scrolling around searching.

From the error message it looks very much like the "feared units" entry for one of the units you've left in. I'm guessing that the unit you removed is the RhineGuardInfantry? However, I'm pretty sure that the "feared units" aren't in column 17, though :inquisitive:
Definitely check out that the file format hasn't been corrupted as outlined by Caravel above. You DID keep a back up copy of the file, didn't you ~D, it's just that you may need to start again if it got corrupted.....
Thanks for the quick replies, im new to moding medieval and im trying to finish off the work someonelese did on a mod, so im trying to work this out as i go along. I'll try out your suggestioms, hopefully they'll solve the problem
@macsen yep i kept a backup, and i havent done that much work to it yet so sarting again wouldnt be too much trouble.
Ok ive sorted it, im not sure what went wrong with that unit but i replaced the area surrounding it in the prod file and the game loaded fine, with the units id taken out not there. So it was just an error when i took out that single unit.
Case solved
Ok there is still a problem, I removed all the other units fine, but when i remove the rhine guard it always gives this error. To remove it i simple delete all reference to it in the prod file, is there something else that needs to be done?
Thanks for any help :)
Ok this is fixed, it was a unit set to trun into them when they dismount, but obviously as they wern't there it caused an erro. thanks for the help everyone

Oops - sorry missed the additional questions, but looks like you're catching on fast! Yes the 'dismount' entry can be a real killer. The more you play with it though, the easier it'll be to at least guess where the problem is. Good luck with the mod :2thumbsup:
