Thank you for the warm welcome everyone...but I have bad news one or anthour my RTW saved game file (the one were I was playing as the Juli) was some how deleted...has this ever happen to anyone else. Oh and my new game as the juli is progressing nicly...Alesia is firmly in my hands along with Mediolanium, Massilia, Narbo Martius, Ariminum, and of course my grand captial with epic stone walls...Arretium.
I have 1 leigon in active duty right now I am planing on making a 2nd one consisting of these units
Rome Leigonary Cohort
Urban Cohort
Heavy Onagers
Archers Auxila
and of course a general and 1 Preatron Cohort.
I think that would be a pretty solid leigon.
See you on the frontlines:horn: :charge: :charge:

Its great to see another player who doesn't rush everything. It is nice to play a slow game once in a while.

Hardly, my leigons of cohorts and archers will strike down your chariots for they alone do not decide the outcome of the battle...But the bravery and honor of my brave roman soldiers will.....after the guals fall your britions are next.......(Que menacing laugh).
See you at the battle field :charge: :charge: :duel:

...Ahem this has nearly nothing to do with my cammpaigin but I composed a song about the romans armies
Now the rise of the roman empire
set the world on its ear
and the clash at Patavium
heard around the world
when the guals charged in the early dawn
the War for land had began
The die was cast the roman banner unfurled
And on to segesta marched the foe
to seize the gold there you know
killing folk and searching all around
Till the cohorts stopped them in their tracks
At the old north wall the romans turned them back
And chased those guals back to Patavium you know
And the clash head around the world
Was the start of the War for territory
The roman leigons were ready, on the move
Take you sword, Take you armor,
Reprot to genaral julis
Hurry men theres not an hour to lose
Now at famous Mediolanium
Even though the romans lost it was quite a thrill
The Roman commander proved he was wise
outnumbered and low on arrows
He said "hold your charge till you see the white of their eyes!"
Though the next few year were rough
Genaral Julis's men proved they were tough
Those tired ragged boys would not be beat
One nigh they crossed the sea
surprised the Carthigeins in their lair
And at alesia just bundled up their feet
Now the clash heard around the world
Was the start of the roman expasion
The Roman leigons were ready, On the move
Take you Helmet, Take you sheild
Report to Genaral Julis
We've got are armies and now it's time to prove oursleves
Well they showed such detrimention they won the admiration
Of countries arcoss the seas like Numdia and The eyptions
Who loaned the romans ships and men
and put the guals on the run
and helped the romans triple in size
And though they lost some battles to
The romans swore they would see it through
Their armies took cities on by one
At Condate Redoum the Gauls could not retreat
Bottled up by Julis and brithish fleet
Vindex surrednred and finally the romans had won!
From the clash heard around the world
To the ned of the roman expasion
The roman leigons took the day
And the Leader of the Juli
beat the gauls there atCondate Redoum
and bought more land to the roman empire
...yes this was a spoof of "The Shot Heard around the world"
...what it's a good song.

True, thats why I use Cavalry Mercs against Archers - or let Light Chariots charge and melee in a pinch
Cohorts are not a problem against a well balanced Briton army of Light Chariots and a battle line of Chosen Swordsmen, Head Hurlers, and Warhounds - they'll end up routing :smash:
I'm marching to Italy, to take the last 2 Gallic cities and establish a front against the Julii in my current Briton Campaign :book:
Nice song by the way :2thumbsup:

The idea is to break Morale with the Light Chariot fire and Head Hurlers before a pitched battle begins - it is a very effective tactic against Infantry, though it might lose a bit of effectiveness if the enemy General has a lot of + Morale.
I've not encountered Elephants with my Britons yet, I used (Cavalry) Archers/Skirmishers against Carthage as the Scipii, so I'd assume Light Chariots will work.

Oh really....well you will be unpleasantly surpirsed...they don't work....And you have obvisouly never encountred one of my leigons......if you do you will rue the you were born...for my archers are more then a match for head hurlers and my cohort testedo fromation will stop any other ranged assult...

Really? :laugh4: I suggest you test this in a Custom Battle to see for yourself. You cannot Testudo while being fought hand-to-hand, and even if you could it doesn't negate the Head Hurlers reducing Morale effect.
A Cohort is simple to Rout, with certain tactics.
my cohort testedo fromation will stop any other ranged assult
With Britons, the key is to use Chosen Swordsmen (or similar) to engage the Cohorts and break up the Testudo while Head Hurlers throw from behind. I use Warhounds too, they can be useful to break a battle line for a Heavy Chariot or Swordsman charge, and to stop the Cohort throwing their Pilums.
for my archers are more then a match for head hurlers
Chariots and/or Cavalry Mercs are used against Cavalry, Archers, and Elephants as the Briton battle line moves to take on the Cohorts. They then join in firing upon the Cohorts.
I would be interested in hearing the specific tactics you'd adopt. It'll help me improve my own battle plans :2thumbsup:
