View Full Version : Query - Which Mod?
Hi, new to the forums well i've been reading them for a while but this is my first post.
Had Medieval 2 since Christmas, and had Medieval and Rome Total war including the expansion packs.
Anyway I keep hearing about patches and Mods and I don’t have a clue how to get them where to save them etc.
I have tried to get this 1.2 everyone goes on about :laugh4: but after downloading it, it just disappeared :wall:
I’m quite interested in getting a Mod of the game and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of which would be a good one to get? Id quite like one with more cities and where the AI isn’t so random and actually prepares for wars etc.
Like I said i'm a total noob when it comes to things like saving these things like which folder to do it in etc.
If anyone could help with a step by step or something it would be greatly appreciated
Cheers
i'm looking for a mod too so far stainless steel and lands to conquer seem popular but i can't find them.. But for 1.2 where did you tell the computer to save it because there should be an unpacker you have to use then you just put in where the game is and done.

Hey,
You probably saved the launcher in your temp. folder. You should make sure your computer saves it to the desktop, at least you can't lose the patch that way. After that just double click it, and let the launcher do its thing. Also, make sure you install the 1.2 patch over your 1.0 version - but I dare say that's not an issue with your current install.
On mods...
Well, there are no total conversion mods yet, as it's too early for those to have finished by now. A popular mod at the moment is Lusted's Land To Conquer, you should contact him or search the forum (I can't seem to find a link at the moment, though I'm sure someone else can).
Id quite like one with more cities and where the AI isn’t so random and actually prepares for wars etc.
That said, there's a limit to what modders can do. And sadly, changing the AI is one of those limits...
:balloon2:
Found the lands to conquer in Sinan's latest post about VH/VH he posted himself.
Going to download later any clues on where to save it etc?
Sorry guys im not to good at this and want to get it right
iirc, the latest version of Lands to Conquer is reliant on you having the 1.2 patch installed; you'll need to download and install that first
Does it do that thing where it automaticly puts itself in a new folder?
Everything is automatic. Lusted makes things very easy in his mods. Just make sure you install patch 1.2 (or 1.02 as some call it) first before installing LtC mod. If you go over to the TW Center you'll find the Stainless Steel mod info. Just do a search for it. It should come up. Thats how I found it.

Hi, Welcome to the forums sirnoob.~
A lot of mods and modlinks can be found in threads in the mods in development section of the forums. A lot of great mods can be found here, however, a lot of them require the latest patch. Right now I play 3 different mods. All of them were easy to install and they are very fun to play.
Lands to Conquer is a great mod for starters if you are looking for a more challenging game. It gives money to the computer to help it out more and adjusts the unit stats to help give the game a better balance. The campaign map is the same, but the AI is tougher to beat. You also get a few more turns added to help you conquer your enemies.:charge:
Deus Lo Vuelt is the main mod that I am playing now. This is a great mod if you want to add more roleplaying to the game. In this mod loyalty and traits count. If your generals dont like their king, they can rebel and cause civil war. The mod adds more provinces, titles, crowns, swords, and ancillaries. There is also a ranking system for your generals where they can get higher ranks through campaign and combat experience. You get 900 turns to conquer a bigger map with more factions. Maintaining a large empire is difficult and also there is a different battle AI, so be prepared for heavier casualties.:duel:
Sicilian Vespers is the other mod that I have tried. My main draw to this mod is that you can have different starting eras like early, high, and late. The mod adds more provinces and adds factions like Bulgaria, Serbia, Armenia, and Duchy of Anju. Also the Timiruds and Mongols are playable. The mod also has titles for provinces, some new units, and it gives you a few extra turns to create an empire.:knight:
All of these are great mods that I highly recommend. There are also a lot of other great mods here and over at twcenter.net. I hope that you can fix your patching problems soon so that you can give some of these great mods a try.:viking:
Welcome
Gaiseric
I'm really enjoying Stainless Steel at the moment. Playing as the Templars was really awesome - actually challenging! Also, growth rates are high enough that you get to high level units relatively quickly, which you rarely get to use in many games (this is one of the main problems with Sicilain Vespers IMO).
Here's a good list of mod links and download locations:

Hi guys
Ive managed to successfully instal 1.2 and had a little go on it earlier and found it much better (The Danes actually invaded England :2thumbsup: )
Just installed lands to conquer it seems to work and im about to have my first go.
I really like the look of the Deus Lo Vuelt Mod and am going to definitely give that a try.
Thanks for your help!
Looking for links now for the other two Mods mentioned by Gaiseric now. Ive just had a quick look in the Mod development section there seems so many amazing ones :D

thie mod im playing is called simply the custom campaign mod, it keeps the game vanilla for the most part except for a few changes, it adds 6 new campaigns and you can also play as the aztecs, papal states, timurids, mongols and of course the rebels. :laugh4:
it also changes the game so that 2 turns=1 year.
you can download it here - http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=100492

I've been reading this thread with intrest, as I'd like to give some of the mods a try.(I've seen to many reccomendations of them not too:beam: )
I have a couple of questions tho. If I download and install a mod, does this mean that I only have a modified MTW2 and can't play vanilla version or online. Or is there say a separate desktop icon that I can click if I want to play the modded version.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

For most mods that I know of, the latter is the case, that is, the mod installs into a mod subfolder which doesn´t affect the original installation. But I advise you (and anyone else interested in using a mod to read the readme very carefully and follow its instructios to the letter! I cannot stress that too much.

The latest patch allows mod folders and all good mods take advantage of this.
What this means is that the mod points the shortcut to a batch file running the right parameter to launch the game modded; in laymans terms, you can have as many mods installed at once as you want using this method.
Can you please either update your previous post with links for those mods or post the links to them here?
Here you go, folks
Lands to Conquer (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=96627)
Deus Lo Vult (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=101737)
The Sicilian Vespers (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=90236)
Cheers Tran and everyone who has helped.
I can really recommend Deus Le Vult it makes the game so much harder/better/realistic

Thanks for the information gentlemen. I shall get downloading and installing at once. Or maybe after I've finished my HRE campaign.....hmmmmm choices choices:laugh4:
hi folks, i`m finally getting around to installing MTW2 six months after buying it and am wondering what mods i should use. :shame:
is there a mod to get rid of the current quirks in the game that is compatible with the 1.2 most recent patch?
am also after one to tone down or negate Inquisitors as well as slow down turn times.
help me Obi Wan, you`re my only hope. :help:
EDIT: wanders off to peruse the rest of the forum as i should have done at the start. LOL
I will make this short and sweet.
I am looking for a mod that you can play against the Aztecs, Mongols and Timorids from the start. If it also lets the Aztecs build the ships required to come to me as well it would be sweet.
Is there one? I don't have the time or the energy to learn how to fish today so please just let me have one instead.

the one I posted before allows all of that, not only are they in the game from the begining but you can play as them.
