View Full Version : [Suggestion] "Media Forum"
During my search through the Watchtower I did not notice any information or mention resembling what I'm about to suggest, nor do I notice any already-existing forum having the nature of what I'm about to suggest (besides possibly the Frontroom).
(!)Therefore; suggestion: add a media forum for the talk regarding movies, TV shows, books, music, etcetera, while the Frontroom will not be the place anymore for these but just for other usual randomness already occurring.
OR
(!)Suggestion: there will be a media forum and in it there will be the following SEPARATE forums: The Arena; Music forum; Book / Literature / etc. forum; Music forum; etc.; etc.
OR
(!)Suggestion: a logical good variation or alternative of / to those two suggestions.
----
Possibly or perhaps most likely(?) the Media Forum would be a part of Miscellaneous. (Of course the names -- if the creation and maintenance of these forums is approved by those in authority, the people, etc., etc., badabing, badaboop, blah blah, and this and that, whatever must be done -- should be properly chosen by whoever should choose.)
Of course, the only answer would have to be a resounding 'yes', not? :saint: Where's my evil mind-erasing machine again? I'll have to put people on that chair in the room and have them watch spinning transforming light while I indoctrinate them, heh heh! :P
I could agree to this in principle; but I don't think that we need to separate any such forum into further child ones - to me, that's nothing more than an irritant, especially when you consider that this may not take off.
So what would you see this forum used for, in particular?
What frontroom threads would you like to see expanded?

Well, an example of this already having occured is mafia games.
At the start, it was organised in the Frontroom. Now, it's in the Gameroom. Maybe this would be in the Mediaroom? Or something like that.

Hmmm. Actually, I only posed the overall idea in the original post for anyone else to freely expand or alter. I don't think I can be more clear than I have already been. (Add the fact I'm interviewing somebody online and this person is quite (understandably) emotional and illogical -- it distracts me too much from being logical myself in answering you. I've truly chosen the right moment to respond, heh heh.)
I have a related question, but unfortunately no immediate comment on the original idea just now. Would be grateful if someone could help: does anyone know how to embed a video in a post. For example how do I embed this video in a post?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkpY3kO0B8k
if I use the code provided by youtube:
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/QkpY3kO0B8k"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/QkpY3kO0B8k" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
Nothing happens.
This would be great as you don't have to navigate off the forum to watch the video, just click play in the post.
That's html code; it's disabled.
iirc we've had this discussion before and decided against in-post youtube links; I'm still strongly against their introduction.
It's easy enough to open the link in a new window/tab that I don't see the need...
Bijo,
The Frontroom, as I write this, has six active music threads, and at least one each for books, movies, and TV. I don't believe anyone has ever felt constrained in their freedom to post about any "media" subject in the Frontroom. The space is there for you to use as you see fit.
If you're looking for a Media Forum, the Org. already has one.

If I understand you correctly you are misinterpreting me, but we must test this to be certain. The point I try to make in the original post is one of organization and organization only. Perhaps you could call it categorization as well.

Agreed.
Hello Bijo,
There's the Mead Hall, the Frontroom and even the Backroom.
-The Mead Hall Arts and Letters, Stories and Images, made by Guild members
-Frontroom Off topic forum.
-Backroom Talk with other members of the community about anything.
There won't be a problem to create a forum for topics that are less suited for the Mead Hall, but how viable will it be? The Hardware forum is a bit similar. Those topics could be discussed in Apothecary, Front- and Backroom. It's a Forum on its own now and used. How much potential does a media forum have?
The LDM can be used too for reviews?
Your points made are clear enough. I comprehend them.

Hello Bijo,
but how viable will it be?
That was a honest question. Would it turn into something, would it be popular? If several people plan to use such a forum every day and Tavern topics don't suffice..

The Mead Hall doesn't look to be really what I had in mind. It appears as if things are mixed up now.
To answer you: from the looks of it, it would probably not be viable since many do not respond here and advocate it (though it does not have to mean a lot). But its viability is still uncertain and cannot be explicitly ascertained at the moment.
The Backroom is irrelevant and -- most likely -- fine as it is.
Regarding the main point in the original post: if this be done it would allow greater specific categorization. Whether THIS is viable or not I do not know with 100% certainty. But the fact that it allows greater specific categorization remains. To test its viability the only certain way would be to carry it out and observe the honest and true results.
The Frontroom has all kinds of topics indeed. It is off-topicish and is a correct place to have topics about music, bands, TV, radio, books, etc. (all things media-related and usually not self-created). Maybe bigger rearrangement of things would be required. But again the idea proposed would allow greater categorization and clarity -- perhaps even encourage posting in these newly-created fora. Who knows what greatness this would spawn?

What do we need an off-topic forum for if we make forums for all of the possible different bits of off-topic discussion? I think we're fine as we are.

Yeah, but look at all the "Best Band" threads... They'd go in the Media Forum, I guess.
The Frontroom was finer before. I remember Andres saying he had to dig for the Happy Birthday thread... That's ridiculous.

It's a phase. Most of those threads have their genesis in one very small part of the universe. This is true of most rapid fire thread postings, which on the whole, are discouraged, but not forbidden unless they get out of hand.
As for the Birthday Thread being hard to find, there is a sticky thread with links to some of the more oft used general threads.

I used the Links to popular threads (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=61645)-thread.
I used the words "I had to dig this thread up" in the meaning of: "OMG, it's Banquo's birthday! I cannot allow this event passing by unnoticed! I háve to post in the Happy Birthday Thread!".
Sorry for the misunderstanding

On a side note and slightly off topic: alot of people often seem to miss this handy tool, maybe we need a sticky in the Frontroom, entitled "Link to the Links to popular threads thread"...
