View Full Version : How to buy a bunch of elephants
Hi,
in my current campaign as Portugal I am at war with Egypt quiet some time. Portugal took everything southwest of Damaskus/Akkon and luckily the Timurids and Mongols have a tough fight as they both want to take Antioch. That didn't prevent the Timurids to attack me, but late Portugal armies are absolute capable of dealing with them.
It's now around 1480 and I decided to try to buy Mossul, that castle between Edessa and Bagdhad, from the Egyptans who are at war with me. It worked for only 25000. And the computer put eight (8!) Elephants in that citadell. That's FUN!
I am looking forward to lead them into battle :laugh4:

For some reason the AI gives you the best units available. So you can get a castle full of trebuchets. When I buy Angers and Toulouse from the French I get mailed knights. But why the AI give him elephants the world wonders.
PS Which famous commander wasn't amused at all when asked what I wrote in italics? What what the real question? You can win a hair dryer. :laugh4: :laugh4:

Halsey, though I'm good for hairdryers thanks ~:)
IIRC The world wonders is merely part of the codification process, though coming from Nimitz it supposedly riled the Admiral :beam:
Ah, now I get the reference ~:)

A telegram was send to admiral Hasley during WWII asking were a part of his fleet was. Messages were hidden inside some extra text. The decoders job was to decode and to remove the extra text. He forgot to do that and so the message was: "where is task force thirty four the world wonders? It took some extra telegrams and some explaining before everything was clear to Halsey.:book:

I always like to think that some signalman with a sense of humour left it in :beam:

I got the same thing when I bartered Jedda off of the Egyptians. I then used those elephants to single handedly crush repeated attempts by the Egyptians to recapture the town. 8 merc elephants need 0 support to crush full stacks of Egyptians with minimal losses. By the end of that game, I'd only lost the equivilent of 1 unit of elephants.
Makes me want to buy towns from Egypt and give them back until I get the same result. ;)

note that any time you buy a territory (or give for that matter, with the exception of the return rome to the pope quest i believe) that there will always appear a garrison of about 6 units of the best ones attainable in that area. I believe it is designed that way just so you can't give and forcibly take the same territory over and over (hey my enemy, heres a town.....*invade and sack town* repeat process since they can't rebuild a garrison in time to defend it)
