i think this is a gamestopping bug but im very new to this game. in fact in playing my first game on normal as julii. if this isnt a bug please tell me wat to do. well here is the situation. im playing julii. romans have already taken over the world and civil war had just started. the spqr, for no real reason suddenly declares me and brutii outlaws but is still alied to scippi. so at this this point im was allied to brutii and spqr is allied with scippi. after fighting the spqr for some turn i offered them ceasefire. i thot if im at ceasefire with the senate thatll gimme time to deal with the scippi for a while (they are the strongest of all right now). the spqr accepts the ceasefire but refuses an alliance. now the senate is suddenly giving me missions again even tho im at neutral with them. but thats not the problem. out of nowhere, the brutti starts attacking my cities, EVEN THO IT IS CLEARLY SHOWING THAT THEY ARE MY ALLIES!!! is it possible to attack someone without breaking your alliance with them? the troubleing part is, i can do absolutely NOTHING about it. i cant even defend my cities. because if i try to attack the brutti in ANY way (including in defence), a screen pops up saying "attack ally?" with the "yes" option greyed out, because (and it says so) i cant take power yet coz i dont have enough support of the people. same happens if i try attacking the spqr. now im really regretting calling the ceasefire!!! so what am i supposed to do now? the brutti have already taken 2 of my major cities near the capital, without ANY resistance coz im forced to back off. so now got have no choice but to let the brutti (who are my "allies") kick my ass no matter how strong my own army is??? and meanwhile the scippi is flanking me from the other side anyway. and before anyone suggests this, all attempts to bribe the brutti or the spqr has failed so that option isnt there. basically the reason im thinking this is a bug is that how come the brutti can attack me without breaking the alliance while i cant do the same. secondly the brutti arent even allied with the spqr. they are enemies of the senate. so why do i need the "support of the people" to attack them????

Hi rocky_841,
Sadly, you appear to be a victim of the evil and game breaking civil war bug which was introduced into the 1.5 patch for R:TW. Your existing game is, unfortunately, unresolvable and cannot be fixed or restored to it's former glory. The only possible way of playing your existing campaign is by reverting to an old save of R:TW. My apologies.
Although your campaign is unfixable, you can, if you don't have Gold Edition, prevent it from occurring again!
If you have R:TW solo then you can do this by reinstalling the game (uninstalling it and then installing it again.) Once you have completed this, patch up to the almighty 1.2 patch (http://games.softpedia.com/get/Patch/Rome-Total-War-Patch.shtml) and you should never see the horrible bug feature in your R:TW campaigns again.
If you have R:TW and BI, but not Gold, then you can simply uninstall the game, and then reinstall it. Once that is complete your R:TW installation will be automatically reverted back to 1.3, rather than 1.5, which does not contain the horrible civil war bug.
My sincere apologies should you have Gold, yet Gold cannot be patched down to 1.3, which doesn't contain the bug, or lower.
Good luck, hope this helps, cheers!

First of all thanks so much for replying so quickly. secondly why wud you offer your apologies? its not your fault that the bug is there. you didnt make the game:) on the contrary u offered help with info so thanks again. thirdly, im not sure if this is the gold edition but im thinking it probably is. i basically bought the total war: eras collection which contains all the total war games plus alexander and installed rome tw plus bi plus alexander on my pc. i didnt apply any patches myself. so im guessing that makes this the gold edition does it?

another small question. i just loaded a previously saved game where i didnt offer ceasefire to the spqr yet. however im finding the it STILL WONT LET me attack the brutti (coz apparently i still need support of the people to atack them even tho im outlawed by the senate... watever that means), so im still sitting ducks of the brutti in case they decide to attack. but at least i can attack the spqr now and maybe even take over rome. the question i have is if i manage to take over rome, will i then be able to attack the brutti since the senate wudnt exist anymore? im grasping at straws here. ill understand if u dont know the answer to that one. cheers.

It doesnt matter really, because i just read that it only happens of you allie with any of the roman factions during the civil war which i wouldent do any way. Peace is not my cup of tea when fighting romans.

It would be nice if that was just the issue Cleon, but it also, most unfortunately, occurs if another Roman starts the civil war before you gain the opportunity too. Sorry.

the post above me is very true. i didnt form an alliance with any roman faction on the game where it happened to me, but the problem is u r already allied to the other roman factions from the beginning of the game anyway. the only way u can avoid this bug is to always be ahead of all the other roman factions (i.e. never let anyone else surpass you) and always be the one to start the civil war, i.e. backstab the romans the first chance you get. i dont even know y the makers have to have this mechanism where u dont have the option to start the civil war until u are powerful enough. i mean that should be part of family strategy to go along with the senate until im strong enough, not an obligation. its a bad decision to go against the senate at the beginning of the game but the option should always be there. the way it should be is that u do have the option to backstab romans at any point, but if u do that b4 u are powerful enough, all other roman factions unite and wipe you off the map. anyone else agrees? why disable the option to make a bad decision in a strategy game?

i agree, i wonder if anyone knows how to do some modding to change this?

Sorry Cleon of Sparta, yet while there is a superfaction system (where one faction grants missions to others and the others require popular support before attacking), the bug is, most unfortunately, unresolvable. My apologies.

Morning all,
Noticed a comment by Cleon regarding the White Label of RTW. I've just purchased this version as my Dad borrowed in the long-term my Gold Edition. Can some one confirm what version the White Label disc is so I know what patches I should do... erm also what patches should I do ? LOL.
I never had an issue with my Gold 1.5 barb edition, but then again, in both games as Roman I was the first to attack, and I never allied with my weak brothers, I just crushed them. Mwah ha ha ha ha.
You can easily check that yourelf. Just run the game, go to the Options screen and check the number in the up-right (I think) corner of the screen.

I believe the White Label version is patched. White Label's Rome Anthology (RTW, BI, and Alex) certainly is.

Correct.
