View Full Version : About some feelings in M:TW

Hello, this is my first post in here. I'm Johan from Sweden 22 years old, I play alot Shogun: Total War on the net and I still play the campain sometimes. I never bought MI expansion cauz it's so unrealistic.

But anyway here is the thing I want to talk about. The corpses in MTW seems like they levitating from the ground (cauz their big shadows) that make the feeling of the battlefield bad. I use 800x600 and I have a 16mb grafic card but I dont know if it's caus of that. They must do something about that before the complete game release!

I just played the Demo it was great but some units where bugging(archers at the 7th tutorial mission and some horses at the last mission) and had bad grafics, it looked like "haggis" porige (The Richard Lionheart unit). I wonder if that have with my bad computer to do too.

All u can do for now is update your drivers man. That might help a bit.
As for bugs, only thing l found is the walls throw arrows. Even when u destroy the arrow towers your units seem to be under fire.

Hi KeePah,

I played the MTW demo with a 16 MB 3dfx v3/3000, and I got some graphics glitches. Crossbows had a graphic error and corpses would move as I scrolled the camera. Also, the mountains on the horizon jumped when I rotated the camera. Overall, it wasn't bad for such an old card. I'm surprised it worked as well as it did.

I think the bright colors which contrast so sharply with the soft color of the ground makes the men and horses stand out from the ground too much. They are 2D sprites superimposed on the map, and the bright colors makes that even more apparent. I guess shadows could give the same "floating" effect. All in all, I've always been impressed with how well the men in STW and WE/MI follow the contours of the ground without floating above it or sinking into it.

lol that was kuma's automated newbie response.

in the third(?) mission there is a unit of spearmen which will charge your cav but if you go around them they wont even turn to face you.

Seemed to run ok for me all I had was a bit of stutter as the camera panned to my position in the last battle. Worked fine then. Corpses have always looked ok not too good if they are mine though.
The colours as I've said before I don't like. If they were just toned down a little the troops would appear less.....how can I put it? I think it's this...the maps seem so realistic it's like painting troops on a photograph. That's the only way I can explain it. But being as it's a demo perhaps game will be better.
Did anyone else have my problem? When attacking the castle, walls breached, army pouring in, notices desert archers." Attack those archers men," cries my general. Said unit then looks (mouse ok?)- red writing. Charge. Off they go or at least would, because red writing revealed..wall-damage- 70%.......MUUUUUUUHHHHHHHH. Like I care? My men were seeking the pesky desert archers who stood beside those walls, sort of pinned against it so tight my men went for archers-walls-arche-wall-arch-wal-arc-wa-archers!!!! At last!!!! Hehehe, anyway my point is that I was in the castle lopping away merrily and as Orda watches the carnage the last thing on his mind is masonry.Hehe.
Desert archers an accurate little bunch, however they soon became 'dessert' archers
(I wish I knew how to do those little smiley things)

Have you noticed that you cannot stand where the wall was? You can stand just outside the breach or just inside the breach. However, if you hold the mouse cursor on the place where the wall was, you loose the yellow indicators and only get an arrowhead pointer like you get when you point at the sky.

I feel that the demo couldn't ever have done the final game justice. The demo covered only the epic battles. Don't get me wrong, I love the demo, it's just that the final game will be so much better than the demo (duh).

Hmmmm no Puzz I didnt notice this but I only went through the demo once and have only bothered with the final battle since. I will take a look. I found it frustrating aiming cursor at desert archers and got wall, aimed just below them to bring up their info. I feel there is no need for wall damage info as once you start bombardment surely you keep it up until it is breached.

Puzz, did you notice that the wall hadn't totally gone? I think I still saw the base of the wall there but can't be sure.

Realistically there is rubble left so standing there isn't an option.
Maybe a plus point for developers.

What about if you string your unit into a long column and order the front just inside the wall. Does the whole unit move inside?

Hmm... I got two main graphical glitches in the demo, plus I've found that the detail of the sprited is varied.

Firstly, The arches in the final mission seemd to have a hand and their bow about 2 feet above their heads, as though the sprite was being drawn in the wrong position. The other was in sieges, where it seemed that the explosions were being mirrored to the other side of the camera as well, so if I faced the opposite way when seiging a castle, I saw explosions. ?!?

No dodgy shadows here, I'm using a Radeon Mobility M6P.

Also, I did have a bit of trouble targeting those archers, only because I was so zoomed out. Zooming in a little helped a lot, and I was using high res.

There weren;t any graphical errors to tell here. Only that the arrows weren't visible.

I use 800x600 and I seeing the arrows, so if you have better resolution you don't see the arrows??? I'll hope they do something about it before they release the game!
