View Full Version : Query - Can Late Bodyguards be had in the campaign?
I feel noobish asking this, but is it possible to get Late style bodyguards in the campaign game?
I've developed an appreciation for Italian Plate armoured armies, and its weird having my full-plate armies commanded by generals in chain or partial-plate...
So, is there something I'm doing wrong, some sort of building or turn requirement, or are they just multiplayer only?
Any response would be appreciated, thanks.

They do not appear normally in campaign games. You also cannot mod them into the game that every new family member uses them or that you can upgrade early to late generals.
What you can do however is to make late generals hirable.

On a related note, is it possible to switch the early bodyguards for the late ones? Ie. you will only have late bodyguards in the game.

Is there any way to make them as an armor upgrade? All general's bodyguard units have one armor upgrade in game. Could they be modded to include a second upgrade (silver shield) using the late general's bodyguard unit?
It seems kind of strange that they can have one armor upgrade which completely changes the look of the unit, but a second one cannot be modded in...
That could be done but the mount would look the same.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong (I haven't played in a few weeks), but I thought there were many units whose mounts changed with armor upgrades. Dvor Cavalry come to mind.

Mounts never change, only the rider. If you go to the EDU, you can actually change the type of mount the cavalry uses. eg. armored horse gives you the late european plated horse

Nope, Dvor cavalry certainly don't (I checked), and I can't think of any others that do, either. Unfortunately.
At least the man's armor can be upgraded to something more modern. Maybe that could make the top-tier armorer actually useful, too.
I do wish they'd "fix" this, though. I like fully barded horses, and the late period generals start looking so... outclassed. Poor guys.

Well then, what is the point of the highest level armorer then if you can't upgrade the bodyguard units? Maybe I just haven't played a faction that uses that level...
Well, you can upgrade Italian broken lances and men-at-arms to advanced plate. And maybe Familia Ducale too, I'm not sure. The highest level armourer doesn't seem to be of any use if you are not playing an Italian faction.
How can I mod my generals' bodyguards to be able to be upgraded to the late bodyguard armour from the highest level armourer? The mounts would still be barded? Is it possible? Has anyone tried it? Does it work? ~:handball:

It might be possible to do that if the old marian reforms event still works, maybe it's worth a try?

I guess this is more of a modding theme, but I've considered doing this.
If you unpack all the files, it should be possible to mod a building to upgrade to a late general with the right textline. If it hasn't been hardcoded out, it should be possible to use the textline in the RTW building file that makes Imperial Palace upgrade Generals.
That lines doesn't work, and it didn't in RTW either.
Does the marian reforms trigger still work? That's what always upgraded the bodyguards in RTW...
