Here are some thought and questions about sieges.
1. Well in Shogun there is 1 day limit to each battle. While is ok this can't be implemented in medieval cause sieges could last months.
It would be wicked if there is siege(day1, day2 and so on) so you can lay siege in a city for some time if you attempt to rush the walls.
2. I am afraid that the attacker will bring many siege engines to destory walls and infantry within the city walls. Will the castles have defences that can reach the enemies own siege engines in even terrain or the cities will be defenceless against such weapons.
3. I think the wooden walls have a very realistic endurance to projectile fire bu the other walls should last longer. I also find the archer tower endurance very realistic.
4. Will there be those kinds of walls and nothing else. I mean they should be bigger walls. Also castles of the Europeans must dirrer from those of the Arabs for example!
5. I haven't really seen anything bad for attackers if they decide to storm the walls. If the artillery destoys the archer towers nearby then the attackers take no hit by storming the walls. Should be there more obsticles for the attackers?

In my dire opinion the castle sieges should be harder. If the demo is any full indication on how sieges will take place its slightly disappointing .
For instance my men were able to hide by standing right next to the wall. for some reason the defenders couldn't get to them which was odd and highly ridiculous.
The game warned me about how dangerous gate assaults were and having no real concern i tried it, to my surprise i took no casulties while assaulting the gate and my men opened it, oh yeah how in the hell did they get that steel gate open by beating it?!
Some additions would be good such as burning oil, moats, catapults also seem too strong and can easily destroy a wall. a battering ram would be nice maybe. towers should be able to fire in the castle and not just on the outside. i also don't like how a castle wall falls all together after a percent of its health is gone. at first i thought you had to take the keep to win a siege, guess i was wrong.

I have read that they're will be *siege engine towers* available (like the archer towers) and that you can add up to 5 layers of walls to a castle + motts (motts i'm not sure).
I agree though that the stone walls should last longer but....because the attacking siege engines look like they won't be able to move at all during a battle, a castle with 5 ring walls will be nearly impossible to take in one attack.

La vie est un don.
Yeah you have a point how are we to lunch an attack on a five layer castle with unmovable siege weapons. The siege will probable have to go on for several seasons! they need to add a battering ram so it would be more realistic because i doubt anyone can open a steel gate by hacking at it.

Interesting point of debate this and one i asked about at CA.
The pilosophy behind the seges is like this:
In reality seiges took weeks. months even years - and from a gameplay perspective there not much joy in watching it take 30 minutes to reload a mangonel or trebuchet and then wait weeks, months, years to assault a breach...
So - that's why the walls go down quickly - its to represent the "breach achieved" and assault of a castle rather than a "full seige". As the player you are representing your "last ditch stand" if you like.
Now for the seige engines:
You GET TO PLACE THESE in a boz anywhere around any castle - during placement the range targeter still works fo you can mouse over any wall or tower to see if its in range etc.
So even against a fortress (ive doen this) its perfectly feasible and works well - heres what i did:
Make up about 8-10 seige engines and put in 8-6 support units to defend them from sallies from the castle and AI.
Once you've breached the walls in the right spots "Withdraw" the seige crews and bring up your reinforcements (assault troops) and then go in for the kill.
Or various combiantions thereof.
Works like a charm... the late end cannons can reach almost front-to-back even on fortresses btw so it really isnt a problem depending on castle design and your assault plan, LOF etc.

I still want moveable catapults. Even if it takes forever to move it around, that's part of the balancing. It still should be moveable.

that's the thing they will prolly attack more than in the demo (i hope) putting your siege engines under pressure

Bombard crew are protected by a large wooden shield. Looks like they'll be there for a while...
