One in a million girl. I saw them on my first date with my wife. They had Tvs everywhere, hence the name the tubes. The lead singer had an alter personality named Qualude
I always loved the end of this one

T U B E S - L Y R I C S
Proud To Be An American
Spooner
I'm proud
to be an American
I'm proud
of the groovy things we've done
There's television, free religion, Rock 'n' roll, Standard Oil,
Times Square, Jimmy Darren, Corey Wells, and Smokey Bear,
price reduction, reconstruction, Peace Corps, and lots more
Culture that we got to lend
I'm proud
to be an American
And I'm proud
Had a great time bein' one
There's your school and my school and both of us in high school,
surfboards, cigarettes, homework, Southern Comfort
Boy's dean was real mean,
Made us keep our locker's clean
Failed nearly every class
Ditchin' was a gas
I'm proud
to be a young American
I'm proud, just think about it
All the far out things that we've begun
There's revolution, constitution, land, sea, and air pollution,
cold wars, hot wars, gas wars, and confrontutions,
constipation, consternation, open hearted palpitations
Muscular Dystrophy
I'm proud to be an American
Because we got department stores
full of cheap guitars
But when Sputnik plays 'em, you just go go go go
I'm proud to be an American--we got two chickens in every garage
And I wish every other kid could be one--in my country, the medium is the massage
'Cause it's impossible to give
Equality and justice to inferior foreigners
too jealous to trust us
Gimme your weak and your homeless
How 'bout checkin' the oil ah, fella?
I'm proud to be an American
Heres another group that probably few of you have heard of
The Fugs - from the movie Chappaqua
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZ5Gzclz7xA)
That was not their first choice of names however they couldnt get any record label to use their original one. Ill let you all guess what that was. Most of their lyrics cannot be posted on these boards :beam:

Well, you already names Captain Beefy, so...
Comus.
Look them up; get their first album, First Utterance. It was written by a dude who spent time in and out of an insane asylum, WHILE WRITING THE ALBUM. It's some of the best (and only) progressive folk music ever (the Band is the only other prog-folk band I can think of.) Great stuff, although the actual song lyrics are disturbing to say the least.

Catholic girls
With a tiny little mustache
Catholic girls
Do you know how they go?
Catholic girls
In the rectory basement
Father rileys a fairy
But it dont bother mary
Catholic girls
At the cyo
Catholic girls
Do you know how they go?
Catholic girls
There can be no replacement
How do they go, after the show?
Joe:
All the way
Thats the way they go
Every day
And none of their mamas ever seem to know
Hip-hip-hooray
For all the class they show
Theres nothing like a catholic girl
At the cyo
When they learn to blow...
Father riley:
Theyre learning to blow
All the catholic boys!
Mary:
Warren cuccurullo...
Father riley:

Mary:

Father riley:
Catholic boys!
Mary:

Did they all take the vow?
Father riley:

Warren:

Father riley:

Officer butzis:

Father riley:

Warren:

Joe:

Every day
Whenever their mamas take them to a show
Matinee
Pass the popcorn please
Theres nothing like a catholic girl
With her hand in the box
When shes on her knees
Larry:
She was on her knees,
My little catholic girl
Chorus:
In a little white dress
Catholic girls
They never confess
Catholic girls
I got one for a cousin
I love how they go
So send me a dozen

Wow, I haven't recalled the Tubes in a long time. I saw them live in Sacramento eons ago, and they were great! Fee Waybill is an awesome entertainer, and the band put on quite a theatrical show. In my first two money-making bands, we did Talk to ya Later (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PW_4i81wYH0), Sushi Girl, She's a Beauty (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkOoffCnR9s), Don't Want to Wait Anymore, and Mr. Hate from The Completion Backward Principle. The first three were guaranteed dance floor packers (it was hilarious watching people try to dance to Sushi Girl).
Yes, Devo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjuKss9hPYI), B-52s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EESZCwS_L0)--great stuff. Played a lot of their tunes too in the early and mid-80s. Still love it. In the same vein, I liked Berlin's early stuff (Sex (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovkhELCJq0A), Metro (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVY2uI_mQ3c), Masquerade (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azr2ooLlfzQ), etc.). Romeo Void was also freak: in U4X 1984, our trademark song was Never say Never (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHzLjRfgQqQ)(I Might Like You Better if We Slept Together). Check out this one--it's truly 80s freak. I got to play the outside sax solo on my Prophet-5. People that saw U4X remembered us because of our off-kilter repertoire; we had a lot of return fans from town to town.
Missing Persons is easily my favorite weirdo band. In U4X we played Words (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6CunFiE0Cs), Walking in LA (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lRFbI5RYJE), Destination Unknown (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbHexmNvwYY), Windows (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNHkgMNVn0I), and Give (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTRl7T4u39E), and in a previous band (Angel and the Kakes), we played these and also Hear and Now, and Mental Hopscotch (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Toch9iO5eW0). Admittedly, Dale Bozzio is a ditz and I wouldn't really call her vocals "singing." But that doesn't seem to be an issue with groups nowadays, so I don't see it as an issue for an 80s freak-wave band. She looked great as a new-wave front chick:
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/47Ronin/DaleBozzio.jpg
Missing Persons used complex and compound meters, which usually spelled doom for a band playing clubs and trying to make it to the airwaves, but they got away with it. I admire the sheer talent of the musicians (most of whom played with Zappa prior), and the edgy new wave packaging which set a trend for numerous bands that followed.
Chuck Wild, MP's keyboard player, produced the second album of the last band I played with (Vector). I came onboard afterwards to play the supporting gigs, including the largest gig I've ever played (over 10K people outside of Chicago, headlining the first night of the Cornerstone Festival in '86). I'm still a big fan of Patrick O'Hearn's (Missing Persons' bass player) new age work. He broadened his horizons into digital keyboards and writes some beautiful stuff. You've probably heard him on numerous movie soundtracks, though you might not know it.
I realize I haven't talked much about Terry Bozzio or Warren Cuccurullo, but not a lot needs to be said about them that hasn't already been said a thousands times over. A HUGE drummer, and a cool guitarist, respectively.
As far as more recent weird bands go, I like the Cure (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waia83h6Y2k) and NiN (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lzb-jYZrLE) (Trent (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgSWRicWIy4) Reznor is (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSp2OHJxYiw) righteous (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXNTq0k9NEk)).
As I was adding links to this post, I found a video on Youtube that I won't directly link to as the content is a bit too intense for the Org. It's pretty damn funny to this Start Trek original fan. If you search on "Star Trek + Nine Inch Nails = Closer" on Youtube, you'll find it.
Hmm ... seems I've gotten a bit carried away here on my day off morning. Maybe I'll have another cup of coffee!

Another local Long Island band I used to see in the bars.
Twisted Sister - We're Not Gonna Take It (Full) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gs37NSLy3z4)
Masamune :2thumbsup:
They are not necessarily wackos, but I merely mention them due to the fact they always wear eyeball suits. Their name escaped me but surely someone knows of whom I speak.
