I tried playing Baktria on VH/M and things were good I took a rebel settlement and was going to take another when my ally arche seleukos betrays me. I quit the campaign right there since the army they attacked me with was almost the size of the total amount of troops I had in all my land! Beginning as Baktria I can't support a big enough army to fight arche seleukos. Does anybody have tips for the opening turns, should I pay the selucids tribute. I would prefer not to use cheats, also which faction has more indian like units and more indian historically: Saka, Baktria or the selucids.

Nobody uses cheats in EB. It satisfies even less than losing. You don't need a big army to fight the Seleukids. You can win as long as you keep your somatophylakes together in the first few turns as a heavy cavalry arm. Invest in lots and lots of shuban fradakshana, they are the force multiplier. 6 units in your army will chew up anything the Seleukids can throw at you within the first 10 years or more. I managed to conquer all the way to Sardis with pantodapoi phalangitai and shuban fradakshana with Mada asabara, so there you go. The trick is to go for the AS as soon as you see them moving towards your borders. If one crosses it, attack and don't wait until it attacks you.

In a VH/VH campaign, I was lucky enough that they gave me some breathing room, but sure enough they came. They are wired to come. Use every available trick you can. That includes

1. Build stone walls and many sphendonetai. Sally each turn until you kill enough of them, so you can take out the "heavier troops"

2. Baktria now (and especially so in the future) is river country. Some people have a grudge against river crossings, but not I. Attackers' Bottleneck is your friend.

3. If you are going to get attacked no matter what, try to find a higher elevation than the attacking army. Your missile troops will slaughter them before they ever come close.

Attack, attack, attack! Take that first rebel settlement but then you need to attack the selues, they are weak the first 10turns. When you attack, Pavhlan and youR other allies stays at youR side none the less!

most of the times the pahlavi attack the seleukids right at the start of the campaign support the pahlav instead of the seleukids they always betray you anyways so if the palahv organize a good attack on the seleukids they will left unprotected most of their settlements specially the ones on the south of baktra, your armies will consist mostly of persian archers and persian/spearman archers with some pantadopoi phalangitai this will any army the arche will try to send as soon as you feel you have taken enough from the seleukids try to get the settlements in india, just remember to bring a lot of sphendonetai to take down the elephants and well leave an army taking care of your home territory, and after taking the indian settlements it will be a boost to your economy, after that just give tribute to the pahlav so you wont engage in a war with them and just focus on the arche, they will throw you stacks and stacks of either mercs or regional units with kleruchoi phalangitai haha you can easily take them with archers and some pantadopoi phalangitai, i hope this helps, it help me though!
