Here's (http://accent.gmu.edu/browse_atlas.php) a great resource. It is a database of English as spoken by non-natives. You can hear samples from all over the world, and hear how different native langages affect English pronounciation.
This (http://accent.gmu.edu/searchsaa.php?function=detail&speakerid=500)should actually be closest to mine. But I sound much more like this (http://accent.gmu.edu/searchsaa.php?function=detail&speakerid=514).

What a pity I spit on Quicktime, I'd love to hear that... Anyway I'm very proud, as a frenchman, to have a stupid accent that no one can identify... English speaking people often spend much time wondering where the hell I come from, because my Yinglich accent is so strange, correct but soooo odd. Maybe because I have a clear Breton accent when speaking french (the same accent that the "johnnies" selling onions in southern england used to have).

Interesting is the different kind of English people are taught. Compare the American accent of the

But the guttural "jave" is more Spanish. " 'ave' without the 'h' is more French. Now that I say it out loud, your whole sentence feels more Spanish.

No, no, just (french) breton living in Franche Comté (hum, bon, je suis pas représentatif de grand chose) for less than one year. Former citizen of Melgven, near Concarneau. I miss my country much, but have to go where the forests are....
And yes, my accent is a little bit welsh, and Cornish too, but my english is not good enough for anyone to think I am one of those... puppets of the english crown:inquisitive: ?
I did not use "Yinglich" on purpose, and I'm not jewish nor any religion, but I used to read Isaac Bashevis Singer in english, so long ago, and kept a few expressions of Manhattan Yiddish:yes: And really, Yiddish was a blessing for humanity, pity Nazis and Israel did so much in their own particular ways to kill it....

That's because people from the colonies and the wannabe colonies are taught proper, civilised English, while those under the barbarians' sphere of influence are taught corrupted, pidgin English. Then there are those in the north and west of Britain who don't speak English at all, but some guttural, wordless tongue, if tongue it can be called.

See if you can find compilations of "If.." by Steve Bell from the 1980s, when one of his favourite subjects was apartheid Sarth Efrika. I especially loved those strips where the Lion and Giraffe are sunning themselves in luxury, while they are served by an unknown servant. Unknown, because he's been blanked out of the picture. On one occasion, the giraffe taunted the lion by commenting that the "blenk spices" are getting uppity, upon which the lion goes and roughs him up, before settling back into a life of relaxation.

Fascinating stuff, Louis. Man, the trouble ESL's have with 'th'. I can only conclude that it is an unnatural pairing of sounds. I remember distinctly how hard it seemed for some of my classmates in elementary school to navigate that blend.
I mean, you see 't', and move your tongue to your teeth, and you see 'h' next - 'teh' is what you think. But no! Put your tongue between your teeth teacher says, blow air and pull it back. Spitty. Clumsy. Unnatural, I say. :) Some kind of Anglish conspiracy.

Yeah, it's closer but still not quite right. I hate the Brisbane one, it's so vulgar, when a girl sounds like that it really puts me off.

It's a bit quiet so you may have to adjust volume to hear it, but in times of YouTube and free video hosting I was surprised I couldn't find anything to upload an audio file to and have it streamed.

I thought about that, but then again it was a precious present to orgahs and not really for the whole world. They also have a woman from Düsseldorf who's pronounciation I personally find horrible but she may be more represantative since my mom pronounces similarly...:laugh4:

That one is actually pretty close, it sounds like my dad, who also always starts sentances with uhh. And it looks like there are no generalisations that can be made about our accent which clearly proves what I have always suspected. We speak perfect English!!!!:laugh4:
