Dear All:

Good morning from Canada! I hope this finds you and yours well. As for me, I could complain...yadda, yadda, yadda.

As the HRE, I'm very disappointed in Hungary's failure to live up to their side of their alliance pact with me. I sent my diplomat to ask for help with my little "Venitian headache", and they flatly turned me down. Needless to say, I'm SOOO not a happy camper in this!!! :furious3: By the by, I have deprived them of their trade rights with us and broken the alliance with the snakes in the grass!!!

Question here: Would it be wise to declare war on Hungary? For all of those who are playing as Hungary, I'd like a little info on what your army is like and basically, what I can expect from you folks.

Live long and prosper, take care and thank you kindly!!!!

Sincerely yours always,

Indy.

Breaking an Alliance hits your reputation, which makes negotiations more difficult.

I'd deal with your Venetian problem yourself. Opening up a second front could be bad, and your other allies may stick with the Hungarians instead of you.

Hungary, like most of the eastern factions, is heavy on Cavalry and missle cav in particular. Hungarian Nobles, Magyar Cav, etc will be tough to deal with -- imho dealing with AI missle cav on the field is one of the bigger challenges in the game.

Also, I'm not quite sure if there is anything in game that makes one faction more violent than another, but in my campaigns as the Turks and the Russians, the Hungarians were always pretty keen on declaring war on me early.

FYI, your economy likely took a hit by losing the trade rights with your neighbors. (Then again, so did theirs.) And also, your reputation suffers from cancelling an alliance. So, think twice the next time you cancel and alliance and trade rights... generally, I prefer to wait for the AI to betray me in the game. This can be accomplished pretty easily by either parking single unit stacks in their territory or lightly garrisoning your border towns and castles (while hiding a stack nearby to counter attack.)

Your opinion, if you will, on a move I'm contemplating. I'm thinking of taking over Venice itself. It doesn't much going in the way of troops. I did my own spying and saw that it more question marks than a Law and Order investigation!

You don't seem to take a hit (or at least a noticeable one) if you "trade" the agreement away, instead of informing them, although it will cost you quite a few florins (or perhaps a junky territory somewhere)

I suggest capturing the Hungarian prince, flaying him alive and sending his father a nice set of human-skin cushions for his throne along with a letter complimenting him on his fine young daughters.

In all seriousness, park a single unit of spear militia next to his capitol or a fullstack of Hungarians and wait for them to attack. And make silly demands in diplomacy, like becoming a vassal and so forth.
Eventually they'll get pissed off and attack you, at which point you are fully justified in sacking the hell out of everything in Hungary.
