Do you think that Roman players should be forced to use one period for a legion, and not mix and match?

I personaly think they should, otherwise we get people taking "the best of both worlds" which is unbalanced and unfair. (option 3)

By an adjacent time period I mean that a player, if he choose marian, can have either, a few polybians, or a few imperials.

I personally think that option 3 is the best one. I play the Romans all the time, especially in MP and i don't like using units from anything but one period which is usually Marian.

As long as these legions are close to the historical ones, I vote to let them choose only from one period. So please no armys of only Praetorians or such.

hum.... well.... it really depends on the players. I chose option one.

I mean... I the players should agree on what type of gameplay they are going to use BEFORE they start the battle.

This is for the rules of an upcoming multiplayer tournament, I think. In regular games the players can decide whatever they want.

Yeah

Edit: BTW Bovi, did you say you weren't going to join?

Moros

i voted for option 3.
it'd also be nice if we could get triarii unit reduced to half a size.

People refering to historical armies and such, I don't think that's feasable. I mean sure you can make roman historical armies and what about the other factions? I mean try to make a Saba historical army... Or Saka for that matter...
If players wanna have an army with as much praetorians as they can get, let them. It's a really bad army actually as you'll have around 1100 (roughly 37K mnai) guys who can be easilly defeated by combined arms... Really that's not a really good army as soon as your cavalry hits them and they get pinned by your infantry they're as good as dead.

I don't see how you can reasonably justify limiting Roman players options without also limiting all other factions who undergo reforms as well

They may be overpowered, but they look so cool.
