No Vince got in his limo a few weeks ago and it blew up. They even had his daughter on last week mourning him. This just shows how much he thought of Chris to break his own story line like this.

exactly...at least this week they had the respect to break the storylines for Chris...
last week when Sherri Martel passed away it was barely mentioned...
I hope the tribute show is done in a classy way....I´ll download it and watch tomorrow.

Some further news . It seems this was no accident
Canadian Wrestler Chris Benoit Found Dead With Family In Atlanta
Monday June 25, 2007
CityNews.ca Staff
One of Canada's most famous wrestlers has apparently met with a tragic end that also claimed his wife and son.
WWE superstar Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and seven-year-old son Daniel were reportedly found dead Monday in their Atlanta home after the 40-year-old grappler missed a house show Saturday night and a Sunday night pay-per-view event. He had travelled home to Georgia for family reasons, but didn't elaborate on what they may have been. Later Monday, local authorities announced they were treating the disovery as a homicide.
Benoit, born in Montreal, was also known as "Pegasus Kid," "The Canadian Crippler" and the "The Rabid Wolverine" and was widely considered to be one of the stronger technical wrestlers of all time.
The WWE immediately announced plans to scrap Monday's scheduled "Raw" event in favour of a three-hour tribute to the veteran of more than 20 years.
"We at the WWE can only offer our condolences to the extended family of Chris Benoit," said WWE executive Vince McMahon. "The only other thing we can do at this moment is pay tribute to Chris Benoit."
Autopsy results are expected Tuesday.
It has been ruled that the deaths of Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and their son Daniel earlier today were the result of a double murder-suicide from within the home

It has been ruled that the deaths of Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and their son Daniel earlier today were the result of a double murder-suicide from within the home. WWE.com will have more as soon as it becomes available.
This is so horrible. What was the emergency he ran home for?
All the major news outlets are now reporting that Benoit killed his wife and child, and then procceded to kill himself. I hope that isn't true...

WWE.com has taken down the tribute videos.Aren't you guys a bit too old for this role model stuff? I mean it is okay for kids as long as the role model isn't too dumb or anti-social, but grown-ups should look beyond a walking Tombstone piledriver, no?

Nothings been confirmed yet. The rest are rumours and speculation. The main one at the moment was Benoit was called home due to a family emergency. On entering, he found his son dead. Apparently Nancy had suffocated him and tried to say he just died. Benoit then choked her to death on the Sunday with some clock cord. He the hung himself on the Monday.
The tribute show was anything but classy imo. It had a strange vibe to it. Cena, Triple H and Regal's interviews were strange, almost like they didn't want to commit to anything until the truth was known. Apparently though Benoit was discovered in the weight room with loads of steroids in the same area. If it comes out that Benoit was on some kind of 'roid rage the fallout will be huge and rip the WWE apart. Not to say I care as its sucked for the past four years anyway.
I do not believe he killed his family. I believe if anything Nancy killed the child and then in a rage he killed Nancy. It is definetly not an outside source as Police found the murder weapons in the home and they ruled out any sort of robbery

I figured she had done something to make him snap but not this. Imagine that happening to you. What a waste. Chris sure deserved better.

Well the WWE is the house that 'roids built. The drug testing they do is only for "recreational pharmacuticals." Banning teh roids in pro wrestling is like trying to do the same in bodybuiding. Can't be done, as the whole buisness is built on it.

Ex-star Benoit killed wife, son, self in grisly crime spread out over weekend

Chris Benoit, born in Montreal, was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles. His names in the ring included “The Canadian Crippler.”
Sheriff: Wrestler killed wife, son, himself
June 26: Fayette County, Ga. officials Lt. Tommy Pope and District Attorney Scott Ballard say pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son before hanging himself in his weight room.
NBC News
Updated: 13 minutes ago
FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. - Pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife, suffocated his 7-year-old son and placed a Bible next to their bodies before hanging himself with a weight-machine pulley, authorities said Tuesday.
Investigators found anabolic steroids in the house and want to know whether the muscle man nicknamed “The Canadian Crippler” was unhinged by the bodybuilding drugs, which can cause paranoia, depression and explosive outbursts known as “roid rage.”
Authorities offered no motive for the killings, which were spread out over a weekend, and would not discuss Benoit’s state of mind. No suicide note was found.

“I’m baffled about why anybody would kill a 7-year-old,” District Attorney Scott Ballard said. “I don’t think we’ll ever be able wrap our head around that.”
The Montreal-born Benoit was one of the stars of the WWE wrestling circuit and was known for his wholesome family-man image. His wife, Nancy, was a wrestling stage manager who worked under the name “Woman.” They married in 2000.
When he won the world heavyweight championship in 2004, Benoit (pronounced ben-WAH) hoisted the belt over his head and invited his wife and child into the ring to celebrate. Asked by the Calgary Sun that same year to name his worst vice, Benoit replied: “Quality time with my family is a big vice. It’s something I’ll fight for and crave.”
Nevertheless, Nancy Benoit filed for a divorce in 2003, saying the couple’s three-year marriage was irrevocably broken and alleging “cruel treatment.” She later dropped the complaint, as well as a request for a restraining order in which she charged that the 5-foot-10, 220-pound Benoit had threatened her and had broken furniture in their home.

Police seek motive in wrestler's murder-suicide
June 26: Georgia authorities say the deaths of wrestler Chris Benoit and his family appear to be a murder-suicide. NBC's Chris Clackum reports.
NBC News Channel
In the divorce filing, she said Benoit made more than $500,000 a year as a professional wrestler and asked for permanent custody of Daniel and child support. In his response, Benoit sought joint custody.
The bodies were found Monday afternoon in the house, situated off a gravel road in this suburb about 20 miles south of Atlanta.
Benoit’s 43-year-old wife was killed Friday in an upstairs family room, her feet and wrists were bound and there was blood under her head, indicating a possible struggle, Ballard said. Daniel was probably killed late Saturday or early Sunday, the body found in his bed, the district attorney said.
Benoit, 40, apparently hanged himself several hours and as long as a day later, Ballard said. His body was found in a downstairs weight room, his body found hanging from the pulley of a piece of exercise equipment.

A closed Bible was placed next to the bodies of the wife and son, authorities said.
The prosecutor said he found it “bizarre” that the WWE wrestling star spread out the killings over a weekend and appeared to remain in the house for up to a day with the bodies.
Toxicology test results may not be available for weeks or even months, Ballard said. As for whether steroids played a role in the crime, he said: “We don’t know yet. That’s one of the things we’ll be looking at.”
Steroids have been linked to the deaths of several professional wrestlers in recent years. Eddie Guerrero, one of Benoit’s best friends, died in 2005 from heart failure linked to long-term steroid use.
The father of Curt “Mr. Pefect” Henning blamed steroids and painkillers for Henning’s drug overdose death in 2003. Davey Boy Smith, the “British Bulldog,” died in 2002 from heart failure that a coroner said was probably caused by steroids.
Benoit was a quiet, roughhewn figure amid the glitz and bluster of pro wrestling. He performed under his real name, eschewed scripted personas and didn’t bother to fix a gap where he had lost one of his front teeth. (According to the WWE Web site, he lost the tooth while roughhousing with his pet Rottweiler.)
His signature move was the “Crippler Crossface,” in which he would lock his hands around an opponent’s face and stretch his neck.
He met his wife in the 1990s when she was married to rival wrestler Kevin Sullivan. As part of the scripted rivalry, Benoit and Nancy were supposed to act as if they were having an affair. A real romance blossomed, and she left Sullivan for Benoit.
Neighbors said the Benoits led a low-key lifestyle.
“We would see Chris walking in his yard from time to time. He wasn’t rude, but he wasn’t really outwardly warm,” said Alaina Jones, who lives across the street.
Jimmy Baswell, who was Benoit’s driver for more than five years, placed a white wreath at the Benoits’ gate. “They always seemed like they were the happiest people,” he said.
World Wrestling Entertainment said on its Web site that it asked authorities to check on Benoit and his family after being alerted by friends who had received “several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning.”
“He was like a family member to me, and everyone in my family is taking it real hard,” said fellow Canadian Bret Hart, a five-time champion.
The WWE canceled its live “Monday Night RAW” card in Corpus Christi, Texas, after the bodies were discovered.
Monday’s show was supposed to be a memorial service for WWE owner Vince McMahon. In a storyline concocted by the WWE, McMahon was supposedly “assassinated” in a limousine explosion two weeks earlier. McMahon appeared at the beginning of Monday’s telecast and acknowledged the bombing was made up.
The McMahon storyline has been dropped.

F this piece of ####. HE KILLED HIS FAMILY!!! Sorry Big G, but I wish he jad killed himself first. What a waste of human life. Why men continue to hurt their families like this I'll never understand. If I ever had the slightest desire to hurt my family, I'd paint the walls with my brains first. :furious3:

The big question is why? Of course there is no excuse. But what was the motive?
Unfortunately it would truly appear to be 'Roid Rage. I hear it can really be as bad as it sounds and put people into the blind kind of rage that may very well have lead him to do what he did. I agree there's no excuse, but medically it does seem to be possible. At least it gives us some real perspective, and if we look for some good to come out of this tragedy perhaps this will at the very least raise some awareness of the problem.

The second question is why did he go home and miss the pay per view and becoming ECW champ. What was the emergency?

Pretty much agree with Dave here. Sounds like a total loser who took a drug known for turning total losers into violent animals. How cute, placing a Bible next to your wife and child's corpses after brutally murdering them.
Way to show some sympathy.:shame:

Sorry Ichigo, don't feel alot of sympathy for an abusive husband who took steroids and slaughtered his family. I'm sure she was an idiot for taking him back after their divorce and all, but the uhm, he's the murderer. The placing of the Bibles just seems particularly disgusting. Unless you think he was some misunderstood wife and child killer who had a profound sense of redemption.

Who can really ever understand such irrational enraged behavior. Perhaps the divorce issue came up again and he snapped. Strangulation is such a drawn out way to kill someone, unlike the quick ease of pulling a trigger, and to do it to your own child...I imagine the awful realization and self-loathing of such an act brought him to hang himself. Mr. Benoit certainly appears to be a classic example of an abusive violent control freak. Too bad his wife took him back; a tragic mistake with horrible consequences.

You've never come across as the type who would cast aside 'right and wrong' for fanboyism, which is what I guess I was suspecting of you at first, unfairly. My apologies, G
I'll hold off any more ranting on this until the dust settles.

Considering that those of the female persuasion are usually the unfortunate and long suffering victims of such despicable systematic and abusive behavior; I for one can't blame Prole for her reaction; I feel the same myself. This is an all too common situation in our society, from the poor and unknown to the rich and famous.

Mcmahon has also got a link on wwe.com that outlines what he is saying. the ECW show and the smackdown show are both going to be straight up wrestling shows without backstage scenes or storylines. creative is having a hell of a time, and rightfully so, coming up with any angles right now and dont seem to know exactly what direction to go in. i have a feeling next RAW is gonna be another no angle show.
Also to mention WWE.com has taken off all other references to Benoit, including his profile, and the testimonials. They have also pulled all of his merchandise off of wweshop.com. TNA as well has taken their condolences to Benoit off of their website. its so dissapointing that everyone in the company has to go thru this when it turns out the guy is a murderer.
WWE.com also has a timeline piece on there that states Benoits excuse for going home, and also details the strange texts sent to 2 unnamed employees through out the weekend.

In line with our policy of not permitting negative commentary on recently deceased people until the funeral is over, I'm going to temporarily close this thread.
I recognise this is a news story different from a natural death, so I will consult with my colleagues to see if may be appropriate to re-open early, as I know many of you feel strongly about this event and would like it to be discussed.
I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
