Just a topic to discuss the strategy guide for the heavily anticipated game.
Cant disscuss much if it not released?

"A warriors death in battle should be bloody"
use wedges too cut through army formations..
This will work better than in MI.

it's supposed to come out a month before the game, so it should come out this month. Since the guy from CA confirmed the actual games release is in late August...
I'll guess $24.95 USD and it will contain $10 worth of info. The game manual will be so lacking that you'll need the strategy guide or will have to read multiple posts on this forum to understand to consequences of strategic decisions.

Only thing I'd add Puzz is that only the US version will require that yopu buy the strategy guide...the european game will come with the manual.

the manuals suck bigtime. if you want to know what works you'll learn so by playing and not by reading a useless manual. although it is nice to know what units will be available i don't see the added value of reading it.

For this game the manuel will be useless. For STW they had a hard time describing the units, not to mention over 100 of MTW's.

I've never really found strategy guides that useful - and i've helped write a couple of em (not for TW though, i hasten to add)
The problem generally is that they can only dealw ith 2 things:
1) how the devs anticipate people will play the game and "their" ideas
2) how (if) the writers play the game and their experiences.
Put that up against (tens of) thousands of people all doing it different ways and its always a non-contest, the player will always find out more ways to do things and generally better ways to do things... and, of course, the longer the game is out the more tactics/strategies appear...whereas the strat-guide folks get a few weeks if they are very lucky.
The aspects that will be useful in MTW should really all be in the manual as they are, imo, core components of the central gameplay and mechanics.
(tech trees, special units, crusades, special province bonuses etc etc)

Why pay for a (ussually lousy) strat guide when you can get all the true strats on this forum http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif (now gimme my money Kuma/Tera).Anyway, stratguides ussually suck, I ran a fansite and was approached if I'd be so nice as to put a link to the site where they sold the strat guide, I said only if you mail it to me ,he did and in the first 2 paragraphs there were 3 terrible mistakes, he named a unit wrong, he said that that unit was great for early defence for a certain race, the race couldn't even build the unit and the unit was a late game unit. Also he said about some races they were slow to start while they were actually rush races etc. Tis amusing to read but not if you truly want to get better most of the times...

Mithrandir,
Did you ever get the STW Guide? Anyways, I really am just getting the Guide to help me through the wait of the games final release. Ya know, read up on the factions, see a more detailed descriptions of provinces, that kind of thing.

And the Forum Strategy Guideis more likely to come out after the game is released...

Ah yes but you'll need the strategy guide to find the secret area on the maps where the holy grail et al are hidden.

Hehe i won my stw strat guide as part of the competition they had at the time "captions for stw" or something - cant even remember it.
The guide was ok from a total beginners perspective but pretty useless if you'd played much of the game... the "Unnoficial Strategy Guide" that was written was far better (was put on another website thats now dead i believe... Grumpy_OMO and others did it)

I would just like a manual with all the key commands. Some people still don't even know you can zoom on the strat map in STW or show province loyalty.
