I quote from pc gamer:
"His insider at Creative Assembly is being tight on info, but did hint to the spy that the next title to folow MTW might just be of a world war two theme. With MTW supporting up to 10,000 units battleing simultaneously, some truly amazing modern battles could be on the way should the studio choose to make use of their existing technology, let alone the potential of a new engine"

What do you think?

If it is true I'm scared, I can't stand nowadays war, not as much tactics used.

Hopefully this is just another little insane thing that has been made up.

if they where going to make a world war two game they would have to build a new engine for it

Exactly why a WWII game would be F***** up.

sucks way to bad imo.

it'd take away a lot of the strategy involved I think, though it would create some options, I think games like FANTASY TOTAL WAR or Greek+Roman stuff would be much more fun...

WW2 wouldn't work. You just don't have set piece battles with thousands of troops in a couple of square miles. Divisions of 15,000 men held fairly large fronts of several miles (can't remember the exact number) and combat was usually at a smaller unit level, battalions, companies, platoons. The game just wouldn't make sense in modern times.

WWII is imposible on TW engine. How do they represent aircraft, will they land on the map and be re-armed and re-fuled right on the battlefield? This is just one of the problems with any Total War after Napoleonic times. Why not Renesance Total War?

Grifman,

Given that line of reasoning, you're right, and a WWII sim wouldn't make much sense (thank goodness) . . . but what might (and what makes for an interesting idea - as it's pretty much never been done in the computer gaming world) is a World War One sim. It's an intriguing thought, really. The possibility of playing as Belgium, standing before the Prussian-led onslaught, or of playing as Italy, and switching sides every other month :-D . . . besides . . . nobody else has done it yet! - and it would make sense with the TW engine, which you could use to try to recreate the occassional breakthroughs in a largely static line of trenches facing one another (handled on the campaign map).

Not my favorite idea (that place still belongs to Ancient Empires: Total War) . . . but I thought I'd throw it out there just the same :-)

There are ways to do the large scale of WWII or WWI and that is like Sudden Strike does it.

You can call air support and it will appear, same with long range artillery. If you know where the enemy is you simulate the radio message to the gunners and the incoming fire.

However this is moving totally away from the TOTAL WAR path of multiple factions fighting for control and wouldn't like to see it as part of the series, but maybe as a spin-off.
It would be great to have bunkers etc.. in 3D. Imagine doing one of the D-Day beach landings!

No WWII please !!!
...and that's from one who loves the period.
The TW series has been successful due in part to it's exotic emersion as much as game play. CA has thus far focused on uncommon periods (untapped opportunities), offering a blissful escapist holiday for even the most myopic of History buff.
I'd say almost 50% of all Military games focus on the WWII, why waste 1-2 years of TW design on something that every man, his dog and his dog's flees will be doing!?

Not WWII!! No way.. not gonna buy that. I'll go for fantasy TW3! And best is to based on the DragonLance setting *anyone a fan of DragonLance?*

Solamnic knights, mountain dwarves, qualinesti elves, barbarian warriors, clerics of the good gods, white-robed mages, and dragons of good in full flight against armies of Tahkhisis knights, dark elves, ogres, minotaurs, draconians, Lord Soth and his undead knights, dark mages and clerics..

Epic!

It's nice to have these constants in your life, it gives you grounding. However if it's Fantasy Total War you want you'd better hope it's not anything that comes with a licence, we'll end up with burnt fingers.
