Do religious types preach from castles?

If a priest or equivalent is in the city of church will their affects still be felt in the community? Or do they have to be sent out into the surrounding area?

If my memory serves me well, they will affect even when in the settlement. The main advantage is their increased protection.

They work equally well in both locations, as far as I know.

Yep, it is good to keep a priest (or other appropriate religious figure) in each settlement as it will keep heresy in check and stops cluttering up the map...

I only dispatch priests for special task such as accompanying crusades and attacking heretics...
