View Full Version : Boy perishes by shotgun attack

The boy's downfall is a most logical result.
EL DORADO, Ark. - A man irritated by children throwing rocks at his house shot and killed a 9-year-old boy, police said Tuesday. Officers were called shortly Monday afternoon and found Demotric Moore with a gunshot wound to the neck. The boy was pronounced dead at a hospital. Officers saw Jonathan Watts, 50, inside his home, ordered him to the ground and arrested him.
“I’ve had it with these kids and the rock throwing,” Watts said as he was being handcuffed, El Dorado police Capt. David Smith said.
Watts told officers that he’d thrown the gun away. Initial calls reported a man with a BB gun, Smith said.
The weapon was a shotgun, according to a police report. Smith said police had been called to Watts’ home on a number of occasions.
“Apparently, rock throwing had been an ongoing problem,” Smith said. “Even on one occasion Watts had thrown a brick at a small child ... in retaliation for a child throwing rocks.”
Watts is being held pending a formal charge by prosecutors, and it is unknown if he has an attorney. His first appearance in El Dorado District Court is scheduled for Wednesday, Smith said.

A logical result of throwing rocks?
Seems to me a tragic case of a frustrated old man, who deserves to be tried for murder, and a kid who wasn't taught well by his parents.

Don't throw rocks at people's houses.
Don't throw rocks at people's houses.
or you get shot in the face. :shame:
The man's arrest was a logical consequence of his use of a shotgun against a kid.

Don't throw rocks at people's houses.Well, if being shot seems like a rightful punishment for throwing rocks, then what do you suggest we do with thieves? Cut of a hand? And the lash for women who commit adultery?
If that's the kind of society you prefer, I can give you some suggestions on where to move to...

He must've played Manhunt 2.

I'll refer you to Texas's castle laws for what we should do to thieves.
What the guy did was horrible. But this was an ongoing problem and parents failed to do anything. Eventually the guy lost it, sad thing he took the life of a kid.

Texas's castle laws Okay, I wiki'd that. 'Provided one is attacked in their own home, vehicle, or place of business, in jurisdictions where 'castle laws' are in force, one may stand their ground against an assailant without fear of prosecution.'
I don't disagree with the principle, but I can see so many ways in which this can go horribly wrong.
Ah well, meh. This thread should've ended after Crazed Rabbit summed it up. Seems to be a tragic case of a frustrated old man, who deserves to be tried for murder, and a kid who wasn't taught well by his parents.

Wiki's a bit slow. It's been recently changed, it also covers a person being robbed now.

Precisely, had a parent stepped in, had the man cooled off. None of this would have happened.

I wrote that with an element of humor and a tinge of sarcasm. As usual with me, it didn't take.
Of course children shouldn't be shot in the face. (Most of the time ~ ...)

The man was stupid to use his gun when the suitation didnt warrant the use of a firearm. Guns aernt something you should use to resolve disputes they should be used as an absoulute neccesitay. This man didnt know how to use his guns. Such is Arkansas

One administrative note, please:
if one clicks the link Bijo graciously provided, and scrolls to the bottom of that page, one sees:

Now, we're acustomed to seeing those notices at the tail end of news items we like to share with our fellow backroomers. We're so used to it, that we ignore it, like we ignore the ads and other peripheral stuff.
But it's important, for reasons I hope are obvious to all here. I'd explain further, but I'm sure it's unnecessary.
When you cite a news story, or other remote, non-Org source, proper, legal, and moral protocol dictates that we:
1. identify the source
2. give proper attribution (name the actual author, lest folks wrongly think they're your words)
3. provide a hyperlink to the source (so as to provide Ceasar what is Ceasar's)
4. quote only an excerpt of the content. That would be 49% or less. Copy/pasting the entire content robs both the author and publisher of their due compensation (eyeballs viewing original content).
Kindly observe these protocols in the future, out of a sense of fairness to the content-providing community (of which we are members), and to keep the Org out of legal trouble.
Disclaimer: I mean no disrespect or criticism of Bijo's posting style, or anyone else's, here. I simply used this thread as an example, to try and straighten out and clarify proper methods of citation/quoting. This has become an issue of some concern, and I've PMd several posters individually. Now I make this general statement.
