What do you think is the best looking faction in EB?

Been meaing to ask this for a while now, so, which faction has the sexiest unit models and skins?


For me it is definatley the Makedonians, those argyraspiadai are just... beautiful, can't belive they going to be changed:bigcry:

I really like Casses setup. Some of my favorits are the Kluddargos, the Rycalawre and the Calawres. I also like Swebozs units as well as Epeiros and Romes(ofc). Well... I pretty much love em all, but Casse have a speciell place in my heart. :P

Thats one of the toughest choices to make. I mean... there are SO many factions and units.

I haven't actually had much experience with most EB factions having only completed campaigns with KH and Casse so far. I am vaguely aware of the gorgeousness of the Lusotannan - but I really grew to love my Greeks.

The Spartan bodyguards (OK I know they are a temporary stop-gap) are the perfect compromise between accuracy and legend.

Traditional hoplites make a much more emotionally satisfying battle line than phalangites. Thorakitai flankers look suitably hard and grizzled. Kretans look every inch the perfect professional archer (the quilted tunic is particularly nice).

Thureophoroi give me that warm fuzzy feeling that my skirmishers can handle anything the enemy can put against them, and still go on to help administer the coup de grace on the flanks.

Even Greek cavalry (the over-arm variety) seem just right for the faction - good, reliable, dependable. Not battle winners - but good enough to mix it with the fancy heavy cavalry of my enemies until infantry can arrive to pitch in - and also good enough to collapse an enemy flank with a rear charge.

In the late game, I can afford the wonderful Epilektoi and the Greek secret weapon - Catapults (OK I can't really afford them - but I have to have some to impress the neighbours).

If only we could have a few more city-specific hoplites then the KH would be perfect.

My favorite faction is the Arverni but I have to say ATM the Seleukids are the best looking just cause of how many units they have and all those Oriental color schemes are just dazzling. Too bad they only ever recruit those accursed Pandatopings.

a tough choice but i must say the Casse. I have a fondness for them since they were the first faction I played in EB (7.4) plus I like building my empires Isolated from the rest of the world. Other factions I like are the Saba, Baktria, Hai, Lusotannan, Getai, Carthage, Pontus, KH, Sweboz, Saka, & Rome.

I really liked the latest Lusotannan and Getai units, but at the same time I've always been a fan of the Baktrian look. Given that it's a one-vote poll I went with the Lusotannan, though. This mod just brings that faction brilliantly to life, and captures the feel of the faction perfectly imho.

I've only played as the KH, but voted for the getai. They have a distinctive look i think and used to field good armies instead of the hordes of mercenarys the romans did. I like the look of their phalanx units.

My vote for Baktria has a lot to do with the way the faction units look, the regional indians (closes to baktria's faction), and also with the way it feels to play them - I like the eastgreek GUI most of all and love playing with it. Get some extra added early/simple Indian rajas playing in the background and it's my favorite faction to look at while playing (though not necessarily my favorite faction to play - as not having any southern or eastern enemies sort of makes it a little less fun for me).

I voted Qarthadastim, but I am surprised how many voted for Rome. I think the Roman skins are not good compared to RTR. This is just preference as they play better than RTR with the extra reforms.

Having the privilege of seeing some stuff cooking for the Pahlavân, their lovely spectrum of cavalry can be quite mesmerizing. It wasn't easy to pick, especially with Baktria which is gorgeous... This was very much a personal choice. Baktria is "Wow... That looks great!" while Pahlava is more to me like "Yeah... That looks just right...".

It's a new uber assault unit. They're basically an elite infantry unit armed with two-handed war scythes. They are mostly comprised of Alexander's secret heirs and defected Roman praetorians. They will be accompanied by war bulls (from Iberia, they have armor blankets and reinforcements on their horns).

As for my preference, i like soldiers with long skirts for some reason, so i guess the Sabae are my fav. Sweboz and Macedon are right behind 'em.

the ones i personly wouldnt choose were the romani the selucids(even though i love to play them) ptolmaioi and aedui(just cuz arverni always go above them)

Your absolutely right about their recruitment pool. In my campaigns once they get to the higher level MICs, they just spam Galatian heavy infantry left and right.:wall: The same can be said about Pontos however...

I was torn between Bactria and Saka. Most Saka elite cavalry units are absolutely gorgeous, and since they too have those beautiful agema units... It was a hard decision, but Bactria won in my mind, mostly because of their buildings and UI.

I couldn't vote for Romans because Camillan units are in rags. :drama1:

Hmm. This is a very difficult choice!

The Romans look drop dead gorgeous, especially their Polybian units are beautiful. The Samnite units (which I classify under the "Romans") are fantastic as well. Marian units are pretty cool too.

But despite their beauty, I'd say Baktria. Their units are a lust for the eye. Especially the body guard units are super! ~:thumb:

I voted Pahlav.Some of their units have such bright colors,others are all rugged,and others are so very shiny (cataphracts).Also,I just love those Late Parthian Cataphracts looks,especially the helmet.But since I can't play as Parthia to save my life (since cavalry is not something I handle well),I will never see them in-game.

As I am playing Bactria at the moment those nasty Sakas are a pain in the a** my friend....so no beauty contest crown for them from me.

But they do look fantastic. Just like the other Nomadic factions.

@Kerevnos: The Saka look great for what little units they possess ATM. They could use a bit more, plus of course we don't have any generals/captains for them in the current build so watching the vanilla guy in the neon orange with the pumpkin leading these guys into battle is a tad immersion killing. The Greeks, Celts, and Romans have the advantage of being more-or-less complete.:no:

I ceased to play with them (reasons are given some posts above) but I voted for the Ptolemaioi. I like the exotic dark skins and the contrast of the white chitons, so I prefer them over the other Greeks (Epiros is what I like to play the most). Of course nobody wearing ugly trousers has a chance in my vote. However, if I had not a problem with the appearance of the Goidelic units (shoes, you know...) I would perhaps vote for Casse because of the Goidelic neighboors. If the Carthaginians would get more local troops (Garamantian f.e., the card looks great) and the Numidians would look a bit different (like on Trajans column) they would have a good chance too.
In the end it is complaining on a high level as every faction has such nice units...

Damned, it's been a while since the last post.

I voted for Saka-Rauka. I don't know who designed them, but the mixture of (I presume) Ossetian, Massagetai and Basin influences coupled with the Hellenic look that migrations and culture transfer gives them...they just look so awesome. Personally, I've played, seen and read about so many Diadochi units, standards and campaigns, that the units and look hardly excite me anymore. Granted, they look good, but, with the exception of perhaps Ptolemaic units, almost completely lack the martial aspect in their looks. That's why I like Saka-Rauka, very alien look, almost nigh-eccentric coming from a Western viewpoint, but beautiful and functional.

Another great looker is Lusotannan, but I prefer their early units to the later Goldfish-infantry, while Saka-Rauka is consistently awesome.

Like most players I take a good gander at all the units the different factions have at their disposal.

Although all the factions have at least some very nice units, the Seleukids get my vote, because they just have so many really nice ones.

This means when I build my armies, it's hard for them to get borring, because I can field such an intrinsic variation, put together from across my empire.

How did you start your campaign? Did you cut all the costs you can(cav, unneeded and expensive inf and ships) and attack the Ptolemies in the palastine area in the first moves, also get all the trade agreements you can whilst flogging map info?

Build ports, markets, mines and roads. Cash in a few buildings where you can to help get a few mines on the go.

I pay alot of attention to grooming my governers/generals traits and retinues. I do alot of retinue swapping, the best governers get the best retinues and go to the richest cities, etc. Cut costs with the right people having 10% off recruiting and medics to reduce replacements. The best generals get the morale boosting retinues, as fleeing troops loose more men=cost money to replace.

I would like to say to the EB team I think they all look great. If i had a second vote it would def be eporite. I have never played as baktria so dont know too much about their units but that blue color sure is awesome!
