I am not sure if this is allowed or not, Im sure someone will let me know. Anyway, my son destroyed disk one and my dvd drive while I was at work. I have registered the game and such. I want to know how I can replace the disk or even better start the game without a disk. I have emailed CA but don't expect anything back till later in the week.
What would happen if I could find just disk one? I have 6 saved games that I don't want to lose as well.

Yea, I thought of that but I like the installation I have. Can I use another disk one with no probs or is disk 1 from the same box as disk 2 required.
I don't know, I would look online elsewhere for a solution or some a-hole probably PMed you with a solution. I would check your mail or look online for playing a game WITHOUT THE CD. Hint hint. Now please obey the forum rules.
No explicit links to ways around this problem, please ~;)

AFAIK disk one is disk one, and the CDkey is only checked during install, so any disk 1 would do. But if not, you could always change the CDkey the game looks for in your windows registry to match your new one.
run a regedit, look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SEGA\Medieval II Totalwar, there's an entry there for the CDkey that you can edit without having to reinstall the whole shebang.
CDkeys are not linked to the cd itself. There is a batch of code inside an installation program to figure out if a cd key is valid or fake and you could even trade your key with a friend and use a different key to install.
As much as I hate the idea of Cdkeys, I think having to have the cd in the computer to play the game is complete BS and more of a pain in the a$$ than anything else. If you just make a batch code where no two cdkeys can be connected to the internet at the same time (LIKE QUAKE4) you shouldn't have to make people have the cd in the tray. In fact, I love PC gaming over consoles for so many reasons but at first, it was to get rid of having to have that damn cd in the computer to begin with. This way, if someone REALLY REALLY has to play a pirated game, they have to disconnect their computer from the internet to do so, AND DURING THIS TIME THEY CANNOT DOWNLOAD ANYTHING ELSE PIRATED. A nocd crack is a VERY VERY easy way of getting around that No CD present B.S.

I agree with you Budwise about the cd check needed to play the game every time... But the idea about preventing two cd keys from playing over internet have been tried.
In MTW 1 that system was in effect, I had bought the game days after it was released, and couldnt wait to play online... problem was, when I tried to connect I got a note saying that my Cd-key had already been used. So either they accidently made two matching Cd-keys, or some nogood copy-pirate had already run a key generator and gotten my key. I didnt do anything about it, cause I figured convincing people that I didnt cheat myself would be to hard.

In that case, I would take out that cdkey and return the game to the store for an EXCHANGE / not money back, saying that the game wouldn't install. If you still have your receipt this shouldn't be a problem and get a new copy. Or if they actually check the cdkey, smudge it and say it was like that when you bought it.

Sounds like steam to me. Pretty sure that exists :)

I know it does but I didn't want a possible CA developer to get their ideas. I don't want to have to have the internet to play a game that I bought. Quake 4 checks to see if you have the internet to validate your CDkey before playing but if you aren't connected you can play anyways after a long pause. Thats much better I believe than what Steam does.
Stardock games don't require the CD/DVD to be in your comp so it seems reasonable for anyone else to do. They are fairly small so they would probably feel mass losses from piracy worse then EA or Microsoft so whatever they do must be somewhat effective at keeping theft down.

I have GC Dread Lords and love the fact it needs no start up disk. I played it until 1.2 came out.
I can't play my saved game now because when my son tore up my disk he also to up my cd and dvd drives.:smash:
Nobody can tell you because of rule infractions on what to do, I would suggest you read YOUR PRIVATE MESSAGES because odds are, someone told you what to do.
