Apparently SEGA is teaming up with Bioware to create a Sonic The Hedgehog RPG for the Nintendo DS. I'm a little adverse to the idea of a new Sonic game, considering how craptastic the new Next Gen games were, but Bioware has a reputation of making great games (KOTOR, anyone?). Any thoughts on this?

It's so outlandish it just might work. :book:

I really have a tough time imagining a "good" Sonic RPG. But I really hope it is good.

Super Mario Brothers in an RPG was an outlandish concept during the time of the SuperNES, but Super Mario RPG was hailed as one of the best underdogs on that system. Only time will tell if Sonic RPG will be just as good.

Fingers crossed that this will be good. The DS needs more high quality RPGs and Bioware is Bioware.

Without sufficient facts it is difficult to properly ascertain whether this is to be a good game or not, but my quick cogitation estimates it will not be. Sonic games are nothing special, and a Sonic RPG would require people of grand calibre. Is Bioware of such calibre and will SEGA allow them to comfortably spring a game of greatness?

I speculate it will be mediocre or worse.

If Bioware can't pull this off then no one can.

THAT might be the weirdest game outline I've ever heard. Especially since this is coming from the company responsible for Mass Effect, a sure-fire cash cow on the 360 (PC too I think), along with the brilliant KOTOR.

Next up: Nintendo works with Microsoft on Halo-Kart.

But remember guys, the DS Sonic games have been pretty well received. 2D is where the blue-blur belongs, and the DS is great at 2D.

The DS might be suitable for 2D, but this is no safeguard to the creation of a good Sonic RPG for it. The more relevant question is whether Bioware and SEGA allow it to be a good game.

I have yet to see a really bad Bioware game, so we can only hope that trend remains. Again, I bring to the conversation the game Super Mario RPG. It's a weird, yet fun, hybrid of Nintendo Super Mario Brothers and a Squaresoft RPG. Let's see if Bioware can make a game of such caliber.
