This could just as well have been in the News of the Weird thread...

Norwegian link: http://www.dagbladet.no/nyheter/2007/06/26/504595.html

Anyway, 2 parties in Norway, the centrists(formerly farmer party) and progress party(they're our republicans) has nominated a 17-year old and a 19-year old respectively for mayor. They're not immediately likely to win if you go by the last election result, but those two parties have got result of more than 50% more in polls since 2003, so they might make it.

So, I ask you: is this too young, or are they a better choice than the usual white-haired dude?

We've had Mayors elected as young as 18 (http://www.kidsnewsroom.org/newsissues/112505/index.asp?page=Weekly), but that's kind of the limit. To hold office, you usually must be eligible to vote (18 in US).

I personally think it's fine.

If they are good and know what to do, age is of no concern. Appendage: the first photo depicts a fine female specimen refreshing to the naked eye instead of a stereotypical male politician. The picture allows good sight of her boobs :saint:

It is fair to assume they have not yet been corrupted as much as others "usually would have been", though if the case it would allow them to become corrupted in the future. And a female active in politics and who is corrupted = an ugly sight to behold.

The electorate gets what the electorate wants, even if it's not what it should have.

But I can't judge them solely on their age, many people peak early, and if it's a rural Norwegian town then it's not like there's a lot to do :laugh4: .

Weird, the second girl looks exactly like someone I know. I never knew she was Norse, or that she had political ambitions.

I guess it all depends what the job involves - if it's largely ceremonial then no problem. If it's a powerful political appointment where some accountability is required, then I would worry about either of them being manipulated by more "experienced" political operators in the party machine who don't necessarily want to get their own hands dirty. (Having said that I don't know how devious/corrupt Norwegian politics are.)

Still, I have to agree it's a better class of election poster than we're used to :2thumbsup:

It has to be 21 in the UK (yeah right "You're an adult at 18"), anyway, there has been talk of changing it, but nothing yet.

Seriously. I doubt she has the experience, did someone forgot to throw the feminists a bone and it backfired? Sounds like someone did some lobbying.

Well, all she has to do is channel that into votes, and she's got at least 50% of the primary vote
