View Full Version : The Simpons or Family Guy

I'll just quote myself from another thread:
Simspons episodes usually have a mulititude of subtle references in them, I can often laugh about episodes I've seen earlier because I notice jokes that I hadn't before. I watched it regularily with my dad when I was still living at home and sometimes he'd start laughing really hard while whereas I was to young to know or understand a specific jab.
Family Guy OTOH, from what I've seen of it at least is incredibly crude, wich contrary to what the producers think isn't necessarily funny.
And as a matter of pure opinion, I think the FG drawing style is ugly and uninspired.

Family Guy is funny, the Simpsons are a culteral phenomena.
Hmmm, in comparison to The Simpsons I find Family Guy very refreshing. The former has lousy characters and uninteresting or boring situations (that are not or much less funny) while the latter are much better carried out and funnier.
The Simpsons' presentation is... insufficient while Family Guy's is almost perfect.
Peter Griffin >> Homer Simpson
Lois Griffin >> Marge Simpson
Chris >> Bart
Stewie >>>> Maggy
Family Guy's general characters and general situations >> The Simpsons'
I would even dare say Family Guy is almost like a perfection of the genre transcending The Simpsons, heh heh :saint:

The Simpsons were very funny at one point in time and then lost their humor. Family Guy never had it to begin with.
Peter Griffin >> Homer Simpson
Um, no. Homer is the man. He has decent catchphrases, a better personality, and is even unconsciously funnier.
Lois Griffin >> Marge Simpson
Eh, neither are strong points in the series.
Chris >> Bart
What? Bart is instantly recognizable. He (again) has several good catchphrases, is much better-developed, and influenced an entire generation. The writers actually use him instead of putting him in "look at me, I'm dumb!" situations. If you think that the lame recurring joke with Chris and that monkey is funnier than anything related to Bart, then God bless you, man.
Stewie >>>> Maggy
Agree.
I notice you didn't even put a comparison of Lisa and Meg on the list. There's really not a debate with that. The Family Guy writing staff (manatees, anyone?) have pretty much given up on her, too.

The artist who did the Simpson made them into instantly recognizable characters, and the animation is unique.
I don't get Meg. She is supposed to be 'ugly' and masculine, but it doesn't come off as such. You don't pity her, she is unfortunately there.
Stewie I like. Comedic, witty, sharp. A miniature House.
Simpsons is a classic show about America, a cultural phenomenon where we relate to the characters. I have to say that while Family Guy is funny, they are trying to realistically portray themselves as Americans, and force the stereotype on you, while Simpsons is more abstract and therefore enjoyable.
Simpsons is my pick. I love both, but Simpsons is my pick.
Both are equally great in my opinion, But I chose Family Guy because I watch it more than the Simpsons.

How can you say that Peter is better than Homer? Homer is an icon (D'oh!), and actually has depth in character, unlike peter and chris, both used as idiots in various jokes.
How in the seven seas can you say that Chris is better than Bart? *slaps Bijo* Snap out of it man! Bart has caused phrases to be entered into our culture, chris is nothing more than a 1 dimensional idiot.
(manatees, anyone?)
Exactly.
Simpsons isn't as funny as it was, but Family guy never had it.

The Simpsons is not as great as it once was and I do prefer Family Guy to it now.
Homer is better than Peter but the writers have run out of decent ideas for him and so he is now less likeable because he once was the average man who would occasionally do stupid things. But, now he is a complete idiot but he isn't as funny as Peter at being an idiot.
Bart is better than Chris but again with Bart the writers have run out of ideas. AlthoughChris is just a younger version of Peter.
And Stewie is far better than Maggie.
Simpsons during their prime was better then Family guy, hands down.
However with the way Simpsons are going I will say that Family guy is the funnier show right now.
I really wished that they had cancelled Simpsons and let it die while on top and continued on Futurama instead.
Oh and Stewie beats the living daylight out of Maggie.

Gah. They're both funny for vastly different reasons. Comparing Family Guy and the Simpsons in their prime is really rather interesting, though; the one is like the junior, high-school/college version of the other, mature show.
Just compare:
Family Guy... (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVei4VCKRlU)
and the Simpsons. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8Dd8huNqnQ)
As you can see, the humour styles are completely different. It's like comparing The Marx Bros. with Mel Brooks.

While the show is not what it once was i choose the simpsons. the characters have depth and you can really get to know them. the jokes can be subtle or out-loud and both come as funny.
family guy... really, you can only go so far with a non sequitur.

Family Guy. There's several reasons:
1- The last three Simpsons seasons were a sad disappointment, as they fell like the giant they were the fall felt pretty strong. The jokes feel contrived, and Homer stupidity responds more to an episodic logic than to what should be his general state. And this is because the stories don't flow as smoothly as in the past.
2- The Simpsons have ran out of ideas, as simply as that. Luckily the producers will put an end to this dying beast on the dawn of 2008 (or so they say). On this part Family Guy enters to bring refreshing and funny ideas into the table, never touched by The Simpsons, maybe because of their "implacable" logic. Of course Family Guy steals some ideas from old Simpsons episodes, but The Simpsons have probably stolen it from some older show.
3- What should be funny is irritating and dull. Homer's stupidity is just so over the top, but not only that, sometimes the jokes have to be explained, when there should be no need to do so. The jokes get repetitive. Another thing, at least in my language (when it's dubbed), the voices of all the characters in the last 3 seasons have changed (because the previous actors wich were really good didn't get paid what they wanted) and they're amongst the most irritating voices in spanish that I've heard, it's very hard to listen too Marge, for example, without pressing your teeths hard against each other.
4- Finally Family Guy's humor is much more appealing to me than The Simpsons. I remember that even on the good ol' times the Simps always ended many of their chapters with some moral message, while Family Guy chapters usually end with good one liners, silence or just the contraire to the Simpsons morals. I believe that this anti political correctness of Family Guy makes it so refreshing. There's some scenes that outdid by far the greatest moments of The Simpsons for me: the song to the AIDS patient (this little sketches are also an strong point on Family Guy comedy compared to the Simpsons wich episodes run as a day on the families affair without any look into possible funny situations that make no sense), the kick on Peter private parts out of no where in that episode in wich the black guy (I don't remember his name) leaves his wife, all situations with Quagmire and womans (or Quagmire alone), the acid satire of celebrities and even heroes and finally but not least the beggining of the first episode of season three (if I'm not mistaken) in wich they satirize the opening of Law & Order, I laughed so much at that...:laugh4:
Family Guy really started rather dull, but with time it has matured and became something even better than the Simpsons at their best point. I think that their characters are far more interesting than those of the Simpsons comedy-wise, and they still have a lot of things to makes us laugh about.
Both shows used to be funny. Neither are now.
I vote: Futurama. :beam:
I dislike how the writers tried to instill a certain type of meaning into the Simpsons character's lives. I found that disagreeable (aesthetically) and didn't enjoy it being forced upon me every episode. I think it's when they lost this touch, actually, that most people say the show passed its prime.
Voted Family Guy ~
Simpsons...
The only thing Family Guy has going for it is Stewie and the dog...all the rest is just a Simpsons rip-off.
Simpsons wins for the simple fact it has Mr. Burns on it....that character cracks me up...."release the hounds!"....
I will admit however that the simpsons have become much less funny in the last few years.
The Simpsons.

Family Guy: (not that I don't like the Simpsons, btw)
1) Brian is cool - a character with a deep and mysterious past
2) Stewie - what dare you say about Stewie ~D
3) Lois - is hot... okay so she's only a cartoon character, but you would, wouldn't you, really, hmm?? :embarassed:
But Futurama is probably better than both - Dr Zoidberg is great "Nice buffet - I just fertilised your caviar" :laugh4:
Simpsons... after all it is still broadcasting after 17 seasons and it has a MOVIE!!!

The guy who gave Homer his Spanish voice died, that's why he had to be changed. That former Homer's Spanish voice was even better than the English original one, IMHO. It suited better Homer's looks and gestures.

marge is plainer than a ready salted packet of crisps...and not even the good walkers brand
how shall I put it? Family guy is like pudding. It's tasty alright. While the Simpsons are like crème brulée, not just tasty but also much more refined. Pudding is good, crème brulée is exquisite.
I mean, I've seen Simpson episodes som many times and I still discover new jokes. While Family Guy is just laughing with stupidity, a 'lil satire and for the rest it's well..simply rude. Like that fight with the chicken, it's funny for 5 seconds and then it's already dull. Then they even dare to do it multiple times. While the Simpsons, it's just much more. It has the obvious simple jokes, just as FG, but then so much more.
Simpsons hands down. I've watching them for the past 10 years. I grew up with Homer, Marge, Bart, and Lisa.
I turn off Family Guy sometimes. It just gets to weird and stupid.

El que dobla para España no es el mismo sujeto que dobla para latinoamerica.
I really can't decide.
The Simpsons sports better crafted stories where each episode (usually) features a basic plot and ties it all together by the end of the show. The Simpsons can be hysterically funny but I find its comedic tone to have peaks and valleys throughout a given episode. The Simpsons also goes out of its way to deliver a message in every show.
Family Guy on the other hand is a more of a series of scenes brought together within the context of the main characters' lives. Each scene may or may not have anything to do with the basic plot of the episode (if there's one at all). In this sense Family Guy is more like a comedy sketch show where the main characters in each sketch are always the same. Family Guy consistently forgoes any semblance of plot to deliver laughs and unlike the Simpsons there isn't much character development taking place.
Personally I think Family Guy consistently delivers the bigger laughs, it's nearly brought me to tears on more than one occasion, something the Simpsons never did.

Bijo, the numbers disagree.
While Family Guy is funny, it relies chiefly on cheap laughs.
Intellectual, yes. However, the humor is oft derived from awkward sexual situations.
Brian gets the blonde chick with no brain. The authors get humor out of playing the 'dumb blonde', the viewer knows that Brian is loathed to give up that piece, while everyone laughs at him.
Stereotypical, relying on humorous pairings of intellectually and dumb blonde.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Simpsons episode where Lisa releases the dolphin from the Seaworld holding pen. The dolphins then attack humans, having regained their long lost king....
There is no real mention of sex, no cheap humor tricks. It's an interesting and illogical situation, but it is enjoyable.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Simpsons don't have to rely to much on sex to get the humor. There are sexual situations, but I can almost guarantee something risque and sexual every 15 minutes of Family Guy.
Bijo, the numbers disagree.
If you refer to the poll -- whose numbers favour The Simpsons at the moment -- then I regret informing you they do not disagree nor agree: they merely state people's choices, therefore the statement "The Simpsons are obsolete and not funny in comparison to Family Guy" is not invalidated thereby.

Personally, I prefer Family Guy to Simpsons. The Simpsons have been very enjoyable for a long time, but right now, Family Guy is funnier. Yes, Family Guy does certainly use risque humor more than Simpsons. However, they also have plenty of good moments regarding other humor as well. Case in point: The grim reaper episode(which I think they did better than Simpsons), and the second grim reaper episodes were just classic. In addition, the Y2K episode was done better by Family Guy than the Simpsons as well.
My summary:
Peter=Homer
Chris<Bart
Meg<Lisa
Lois>Marge
Stewie>Maggie(by A LOT)
Also, I'm surprised no one compared these two:
Mayor Adam West>Mayor Quimby
So we've got one tie, three to Family Guy and two to Simpsons. In addition, Simpsons has no character to rival Brian or Death. Personally, I like nearly all of the jokes with death a lot.
So, here's some various moments of Death, from Family Guy.

This poll is about
Which of the first two is better or which one of them do you prefer?
So the numbers currently lead to the conclusion that
A. Simpsons is better
B. Simpsons is preferred
"The Simpsons are obsolete and not funny in comparison to Family Guy"
To say that Simpsons is not funny compared to Family Guy would be against the numbers.
Simpsons is better by numbers, meaning more people think that Simpsons is better. The two shows are comedies, and if one show is better, that means the comedy is better, or it wouldn't be better. The comedy in both shows are good, but Simpsons is better. The numbers verify that the Simpsons are better, and preferred. If you didn't want the numbers to matter, then you shouldn't have polled.
To say that the Simpsons are obsolete goes against the definition of the word.
Wikipedia
Obsolescence is the state of being which occurs when a person, object, or service is no longer wanted
Merrian-Webster
Main Entry: 1ob·so·lete
Pronunciation: "äb-s&-'lEt, 'äb-s&-"
Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin obsoletus, from past participle of obsolescere to grow old, become disused, perhaps from ob- toward + solEre to be accustomed
1 a : no longer in use or no longer useful <an obsolete word> b : of a kind or style no longer current : OLD-FASHIONED <an obsolete technology>
Underlining is author note.
The first would mean that the Simpsons is not obsolete, since it is still wanted. People will watch Simpsons. The second definition would also rule out obsolete, for the Simpsons is still in use. It still generates viewers and revenue. Simpsons is in use. To say that it is not current would ignore the Simpsons consistent reminder of current events. (Halloween Episodes)
One thing that Family Guy lacks is also the religion. I cannot recall an episode that has a Flanders character. Flanders is funny. He is conservative, Christian (to the extreme), has a Beatles collection under his house, and over-protective.
I think that Mayor Quinby is more funny than Mayor West. Personal opinion.
Like the Mohicans, the Simpsons will disappear, but considering the entire Simpsons series, prefer it, and I think it is better than Family Guy.

Hmmm, I would say you're rating Futurama too low, but then i hardly ever saw American Dad and you don't include a scale so I can judge whether you actually think it's good or not.
Futurama was damn good though, and more importantly, it had original character, okay Fry might have been the adult version of Bart, but Bender, Zoidberg, the professor ! What a great cast.
=SpinoThe Simpsons sports better crafted stories where each episode (usually) sports a basic plot and ties it all together by the end of the show. The Simpsons can be hysterically funny but I find its comedic tone to have peaks and valleys throughout a given episode. The Simpsons also goes out of its way to deliver a message in every show.
I don't know, when the Simpsons first aired here, it was the age of the family sitcom (Full House ARGH !), the Simpsons with their message, often delivered half heartedly, often felt like a parody on these shows.
The first few seasons weren't quite as good as some later seasons of the Simpsons though, they reached their peak a few years in, stayed there a long time and then around the tenth season it started going downhill, though there are definitely still gems amongst later episodes.
Family Guy has some funny bits, perhaps more laugh out loud funny than the Simpsons, but i've seen some Simpsons episodes dozen of times over the years (and reruns) and can still appreciate them, this doesn't apply to any other show or movie.
This poll is about
Which of the first two is better or which one of them do you prefer?
So the numbers currently lead to the conclusion that
A. Simpsons is better
B. Simpsons is preferred
False. The word OR is used, therefore it is difficult to with certainty state your conclusion to be entirely valid.
I regret repointing out the fact that the statement "The Simpsons are obsolete and not funny in comparison to Family Guy" does not pertain to the numbers held by the poll. The statement regards two keywords which are (not) funny and obsolete. Where in the poll are these two words utilized?
And furthermore I must once more pinpoint the fact that the poll is receptive of people's choice which is what it verifies.
To say that the Simpsons are obsolete goes against the definition of the word.
Underlining is author note. The definition is flawed and conveniently befits your sayings. The proper definition follows:
ob·so·lete (ŏb'sə-lēt')
adj.
No longer in use: an obsolete word.
Outmoded in design, style, or construction: an obsolete locomotive.
Biology Vestigial or imperfectly developed, especially in comparison with other individuals or related species; not clearly marked or seen; indistinct. Used of an organ or other part of an animal or plant.Pay specific heed to the second point. You will find that it is valid.

Bijo, you used the word or. How can I not use it if it is the question? It seems to render the entire poll useless if we can't defend the positions we take by the very poll that we are answering. I could change it to...
Which of the first two are better?
A:The Simpsons
Which of them do you prefer?
B: The Simpsons
Because there are more votes for Simpsons, then it validates that they are better and preferred.
ob·so·lete (ŏb'sə-lēt')
adj.
1. No longer in use: an obsolete word.
2. Outmoded in design, style, or construction: an obsolete locomotive.
3. Biology Vestigial or imperfectly developed, especially in comparison with other individuals or related species; not clearly marked or seen; indistinct. Used of an organ or other part of an animal or plant.
If it still is part of popular culture (Movie anyone?), people watch it, merchandise of the Simpsons sells, then it is not outmoded.
out·mod·ed (out-mō'dĭd) pronunciation
adj.
1. Not in fashion; unfashionable: outmoded attire; outmoded ideas.
2. No longer usable or practical; obsolete: outmoded machinery.
Not in fashion means that you don't see people wearing the Simpson. Halloween is when the Simpsons come out en masse.
Since the two shows are comedies, then whichever one is better is more comedic. The numbers indicate that it is better, and therefore more comedic.
To ignore the numbers means that we should also ignore you statement, because it is made of the voting numbers.
Why have a poll if you dismiss the numbers?
Because there are more votes for Simpsons, then it validates that they are better and preferred. Incorrect. It shows that a number of people -- that has voted -- thinks one is better than the other or a number of people prefers one over the other.
If it still is part of popular culture (Movie anyone?), people watch it, merchandise of the Simpsons sells, then it is not outmoded.
Not in fashion means that you don't see people wearing the Simpson. Halloween is when the Simpsons come out en masse.
Incorrect. Regardless of peoples' ideas of fashion the TV show named The Simpsons is Outmoded in design, style, or construction.
Since the two shows are comedies, then whichever one is better is more comedic. The numbers indicate that it is better, and therefore more comedic.
To ignore the numbers means that we should also ignore you statement, because it is made of the voting numbers.
False. Good <> Comedic ---> Better <> More Comedic
Why have a poll if you dismiss the numbers? I have only dismissed them in regard to the earlier statement made which is "The Simpsons are obsolete and not funny in comparison to Family Guy." Futhermore, the creation of the poll has been carried out to measure people's thoughts regarding the two shows.
It is.... logical.
Marshal Murat

So I would be valid if I said...
Simpsons is better & Simpsons is preferred over Family Guy.
The numbers provide a slim margin of favor, that one is better and preferred by more participants.
Futhermore, the creation of the poll has been carried out to measure people's thoughts regarding the two shows.
If your measuring peoples thoughts, then why have the poll. Ask the question. If your going to take numbers into account, then have the poll.
Regardless of peoples' ideas of fashion the TV show named The Simpsons is Outmoded in design, style, or construction.
How is it outmoded?
Your responses, Marshal, serve futility in obtaining truisms and serve fallacy -- not to mention it becomes tiresome. The answers one seeks have been provided, and all one has to do is seek them. Due to this reasoning I will cease our discussion.
I have to vote Family Guy, it just makes me laugh more than The Simpsons, Simpsons got real boring after the endless re-runs and the new episodes aren't that good compared to Family Guy IMO.

"Better" is subjective. Despite what anyone here states, debating "better" is pointless without specific, measurable criteria that define what "better" means in this poll. Threads that say "which is best" are ego-based and ludicrous in my view. "Favorite" or "preferred" make sense, and either of these renders debate pointless because a patron's response is then a matter of personal taste.

I think now, Simspons have only alittle bit of humor in their shows, and kinda mushy and geeky. Family Guy is to crude, never saw humor in it.

Out of curiosity Bijo, is English your primary language?
No. Why the curiosity? (I ask it out of curiosity too ;)
The Simpsons is a good great show, but it's has fallen out of my interests for two reasons:
1) The perpetual re-runs, and the fact that the shows that are repeated are always the same select few. So even though their a few hundred episodes I'd have to say I've only seen 100-200 because they never get aired.
2) The more recent seasons have gone downhill, to the extent that I am dreading the movie, because I am sure it will be terrible.

As I read your posts, the flow of words suggests that perhaps it is not your native language. You write well. Yet there are differences in how you phrase, in the rhythm of your writing, in your choice of words.
Thank you for satisfying my curiosity.
2) The more recent seasons have gone downhill, to the extent that I am dreading the movie, because I am sure it will be terrible.
From what I've heard the writing team from season 8 wrote the movie.
In that case good, but I hope they wrote it around that time too.
American dad never came alot on Tv, it was aired by Mtv for verry short while. But I liked it, it was not that dirty and stuff. It mostky was satire. In fact it is a bit of the opposite of the Simpsons, where Homer would be the "worst father in the world" type, In American Dad, the patrias faimilias is shown as the ideal American dad, as portrayed in the media etc,... Ad well it seems to be that that ideal father, isn't that ideal at all. It had a lot of satire and ofcourse a talking fish. (could you believe that?)
Also I rate Futurama damn high, it's one of my favourite shows, but then again so are the simpsons and so was American Dad (I really should look for a dvd or something lol. Or is it secretly still aired in Belgium?) Southpark and Familyguy well... They are good if nothing else is on, but that's that. complexloos entertainment.
I like to watch The Venture Bro. or Bleach
You mean, Bleach the Anime? With ichigo and stuff? If so I'm watching the second season. I like it, the second season is much better than the first. It is good. Tough the best anime ever, remains Rurouni Kenshin. Tough that new serie, Death Note is comming close. I mean, in contrary of other anime it isn't about fighting or something, but it's really a battle between two geniousses. L vs. Light. It's all about the plot. And it's damn good one! Not only the plot is well done, but it's also full of symbols and references. But perhaps the best thing about it is, how you can follow Light into his madness, the madness of him thinking himself as divine/ The sickness of Light and other humans, is portrayed verry nicely. Also it's one of the verry few Anime series that uses really good background music, it always creates the right athmosphere.

Nothing can beat the battosai, tough. ~;)
Is that Battusai from Samurai X or another character I'm not aware of?
I prefer the Simpsons, though their reruns and last seasons are a bit of a downer. I've never seen Family Guy enough, or enjoyed it enough to prefer it over the Simpsons -though any show could use a baby like Stewie:grin3: .
Marshal Murat
07-05-2007, 20:32
Battusai from Ruroni Kenshin.
It's from the same thing. Samurai X is the name in US of something after the 3 rurouni kenshin seasons (never saw it) or something while rurouni kenshin is the name of the Japanese anime series.
I voted "GAH!" I think that overall Simpsons is the better show (the humor and characters are both more developed & sophisticated), but I enjoy both.

The Simpsons all the way for me, If family guy had more episodes with just stewie and brian, it might be a close thing, but Homer is a God and Peter....just isnt

Homer is just annoyingly stupid now, Peter can be smart. Complete randomness is also IMO in Family Guy and not in The Simpsons.
TS now are predictable. FG has some great moments, but will most likely die earlier than the simpsons, peaking earlier.
"I've got an idea, and idea so smart my head would explode if i even began to know what i was talking about" - Peter
"I've got an idea" *Puts hand in waffle maker and closes it, burning his hand* - Peter
The younger generations (i.e. me and me age group (around 16) find things you dont expect funnier, rather than subtle jokes we may not be able to understand the reference to.
Example: Delirous from Eddie Murphey. I find that jokes that are obvious funny, but my brother (around 23) finds the links funnier, because he was around at the time.
These forums are most likely populated with people over 20 as a majority, therefore i think The Simpsons will pull more votes.

Only distantly related to the topic: would you be insulted if some younger punkaloid at work, in a conversation about the Simpsons, started busting up laughing, pointed at you, and said, "hey! you look like Ned Flanders!" Everyone around started cracking up. :embarassed:
Now people are walking by grinning and saying "hey there Flanders!" I had to look online to see who Ned Flanders is.

Family guy is 100% jokes and quite funny but can also be very very boring. The Simpsons can be very funny aswell but is more something you can sit and watch and not be bored at all without necessarily going into fits of laughter.
I voted the Simpsons because at the end of the day, it's just better.
P.S. I've seen the trailer for the Simpsons movie aswell which looks funny old style
"Spider-Pig, Spider-pig, does whatever a spider-pig does" :)

go simpsons! family guy is just random stupidity and nonsense, seriously if i wanted that i'd just watch robot chicken.
plus simpsons movie looks more like old simpsons thus seems good.
Homer is funnier than peter, and the humor is much less random than that of Family guy.
"spider pig, spider pig, does whatever spiderpig does"
crap like that
The movie trailer's look absolutely terrible. I'm going to go with somebody incredibly cynical so we can sit there and make fun of it and walk out half-way through. ~;p
random stupidity and nonsense
I'd say your generally right about the earlier episodes. But look at the newer episodes and now the Movie (well the trailers at least) and you can't wholeheartedly say that the Simpsons hasn't degenerated to that. At least in Family Guy it's funny nonsense, and some scenes just make the Simpsons look like what Ford is to Ferrari.
You are sick! I mean spiderpig!? come on!
You are sick! I mean spiderpig!? come on!
I'm sorry that killed it for me, it is stupid and not funny.
But it's half pig, half spider and half man? How can that not be awesome?

Alos I think the simpsons only get better. Except that the references aren't as good as they were. For the rest they became better.

Still gonna try to see it!

I laughed hard when I saw the spiderpig - and then marge's expression.
The thing is, the Simpsons can make me laugh hard with a witty turn of phrase, a short bit of animation, something clever that's not just some celebrity reference - all family guy has is 1) contemporary, if sometimes obscure, insults of people, places and things, and 2) outrageous scenes that go on and on and on.
The Simpsons has intelligence - in it's prime it was like George Bernard Shaw compared to monkeys throwing poo at each other for Family guy.

I've watched all the Bleach episodes that have come out so far. The website I watch them on has every episode subbed that has been released(1-134). Rurouni Kenshin was a great series but the OVA's are much better imo. I've never actually watched Death Note, but LEN seems to like it so I might check it out. If anyone has any suggestions on anime series to watch I'm listening.

Bleach: I'm around episode 40, Ichigo battling captain something on the bridge at that white tower thingy. I hope it doesn't get bad after so many episodes (didn't know there were about 134 of them already.)
Death Note: If there's one anime you gotta see, it's Death Note. Like I said no fights (some action but no fights) well no physical fights. It's more like a battle of tought, using psychological tricks and logical thinking. Instead of a battle of warriors it's a batte of two geniusses, which makes for a very interesting and complex plot. It's really good, a piece of art really.
never seen the OVA's of Kenshin but the second season was incredible. the third wasn't that great though. Should have stopped after the 2nd season.
Anyway do you have any suggestions for anime to watch? I'm still watching Bleach but I've finished Death Note (only 37 episodes, but atleast they stopped before it became boring or something.)

Byakuya. Bount arc sucks and is a filler, but after that it is getting pretty if only they would stop making filler episodes. :wall:
Aishiteruze Baby was a good show. It's basically about a 5 year old girl and her cousin who has to take care of her because her mother ran off.
Love Hina was extremely entertaining for me.
Blue Gender basically humans vs. giant alien bugs. Always fun:beam:
Cowboy Bebop if you haven't seen it, which you probably already have.
It might be easier if you would list animes that you've already seen, but there's a few for you. I shall come back later.

It's about a guy who after his grandmother goes on vacation takes over an Inn that his grandmother took care of (all girls live there). He's trying to get into Tokyo Uni. because of a promise he made to a girl from his childhood. Basically the plot of the story he's trying to go to Tokyo Uni. to meet the girl of his dreams he thinks.
Black Blood Brothers-
During a War called the Hong Kong Crusade, an Old Blood vampire, Jirou Mochizuki, aka the Silver Blade (Gintou), fought and defeated most of the Kowloon Children. Ten years later, Jirou heads to Japan with his little brother, Kotarou, in hopes of reaching The Special Zone, a thriving secret city where vampires live. They soon realize that a plan to infiltrate The Special Zone is being hatched by the Kowloon Children survivors. As they travel to The Special Zone, Jirou encounters enemies from the past and new threats that may endanger the safety of the Special Zone. The abduction of Kotarou, by one of the Kowloon Children, thrusts him even further into the battle.
FLCL I don't really remember, but it was a pretty funny anime. Look on Wiki it'll probably tell you more.
Neon Genesis Evangelion-This one centers around a boy named Shinji. It's basically a mecha anime where three teenagers pilot Evangelions, which are the mecha's, to protect Tokyo-3 from huge monsters called Angels. Of course always check the Wiki for more information. ~;) This is probably one of the best animes I've watched.

Sure, it's Gainax's magnum opus and the single most influential anime of our time, but that show is so utterly depressing and falls apart so badly in the end that I cannot but uphold Cowboy Bebop as a better show by the latter's sheer snazzy awesomeness and 60's cop show atmospheric factor. It's one of the only three anime I've ever seen that does not feel, well, anime. :2thumbsup:
(The other two would be Ghost in the Shell which feels more cyberpunk than anime-ish and a certain show about rock music by the name of BECK, which rocks, pun intended)

I find both shows rather dumbed down... Like they expect the viewer to be a drooling idiot, and have to overexplain the jokes.
I'd vote family guy though, as they at least dont try and fit some sensmorale in at the end.
