Anyone who has any source-based game needs to grab this mod, now :beam:

Quite possibly the best sourcemod out to date, ins focuses on infantry combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's very geared to realism, with one or two hits being fatal and players being forced to use a minimal hud (including no map, no teammate identifiers, and no crosshair).

The gameplay itself is best described as a cross between DODS and RO, with players dieing extremely easily as they fight to capture control areas in a certain order. The front then moves upon capture of an area, taking the combat to a new location.

Considering that the game is currently at its first beta stage, it's looking exceptionally polished, and if you've got any source-based game (ie css, dods, hl2, ep1 etc), I'd encourage you to grab the Source SDK base from steam and the mod from insmod.net and get playing :laugh4:

You are saying that any Source-based game can execute the mod without any direct monetary compensation involved by the consumer to the creators? If true, this is a splendid thing indeed, and... I... I... must... not... fall.... into... I must not.... download... and.... arrrgh!

There are a number of screenshots and further information there. Does look promising.

I, too, will have a go at it one of those days. As soon as I read about squad-based tactics, command, and such, it became much more interesting.

Its a very good game with only a few annoying bugs. Which is great considering its only beta 1.1

In this case, waiting is good, as the longer you wait, the less CS players remain ingame by the time you play :laugh4:

I am a cs_office maniac, mind you. So kidnapping you my friend till the SAS Teams come, which will be mashed by my nice Magnum AWP, is the best option.

One day I'll have to buy this "CS". ~;)

Hey, I don't mind it; I just sometimes get annoyed at the huge amount of campers lieing around.

Trust me - campers on ins (where you can't respawn until the entire team has been killed on certain maps, once you're out of reinforcement waves) is immensly frustrating, as they can never win the map for you but take forever to die ~:)

Everyone must try this mod. It is absolutely fantastic for being a beta. It's annoying real. The only thing I don't like is the lack of armor for US Marines.

Well, I guess there's no way of getting it without a Steam-account.:beam:

No...but though this offer may no longer be running, there was a situation in which everyone with AMD/ATI cards could sign up and get HL2DM for free; thus giving them access to the source sdk base; and thus to this mod.

Might be worth looking at if you fit the description.

But a Steam account is free. :inquisitive:

Yes, but this is modification for the HL2DM Engine. It isn't a stand alone mod.

I got the free junk through having an ATI card but it doesn't give you the source base necessary to play INS. :shifty:

Back to RO.

You should be able to download it through the 'tools' section of the steam window - it does not appear as a game; but I've got it on good authority that it comes with HL2DM and the other bundled games.

Uhm, you just install Source SDK Base really. Which is a free tool I think.

Hmm. From what I'm reading, I'm not paying $20 for this mod. A shotgun? Sounds more than a little arcadey...

What are the weapons and classes, since it's not in the manual?

It's free if you own Half life 2.

But you could download steam and try to play it without Half life 2
