I've got no opinion on the matter, but it's probably useful to let you know that both the EB and the RTR teams don't like and won't take part in these discussions ~;)

EB until maybe RTR 7.0 comes out. The current RTR doesn't even compare.

Hi Xehh II,
You can find many previous, and very interesting, threads on this subject or, at least related to it. This thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=77518) is, in my opinion, the most interesting of the available selection, but this thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=83955) and this thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?p=1191959), also may interest you. You also may wish to view this thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=83859) which is a R:TR Veteran's View of EB - not quite what you are looking for, but highly intriguing all the same. Hope this helps, cheers!

Thanks so far, I asked this beacause I'm able to play both but I only have dail-up so it would take ages to DL RTR, I wanted to know if it was worth it.

Who here knows whether it's worth it for you? Nobody. We can only give our thoughts on the two mods. But the best way is to play both. I played EB 0.74 briefly, then uninstalled and promptly forgot all about it. After that, I played RTR and thought it was the best game ever. Now, I'm an EB fan. But, in both cases, I had a really good time.

Can someone point me in the direction of some RTR info then, the actual RTR site offers no info that I could find.

Try their TWC forum (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=26).

well, after having tried both of those, and then hearing about Terrae Expugnandae, I found that I enjoyed TE more than either RTR or EB, although both those mods are really good.

TE doesn't change the basic game too much, but adds/changes factions, allows night battles, adds/reskins units, rebalances them, combines the Roman factions into 1 etc etc.

In all i found that it was much more enjoyable for me over the other two :beam: If you would like to take a look at it, heres the link :2thumbsup:

I just found out that it seems you need BI to play RTR, that means I can't play it.

Well go with EB then.

But wait isnt EB goin with BI now?

Nope, EB only needs normal RTW patched to 1.5

I thought RTR Platinum didn't need BI...

Hello Xehh II,
Don't worry, you don't need BI. R:TR 7.0 will require BI, but 6.0 (which requires 1.2) and Platinum (which requires 1.5) won't, although you can play Platinum with BI if you wish. You can find these two brilliant modifications here (http://www.rometotalrealism.org/download.html). Simply download and follow the instructions to play R:TR to it's full. Hope this helps, good luck, cheers!

I didn't think so either but in one of the TWC forums it says that it does.

For platinum you don't need BI but 1.5 which is the same as EB so I would say give it a try and see if you like it or not . HAve played both Eb and RTR I say play them both and see what you like more.

I think the most recent version is RTR platinum v1.9, or something like that.
You are downloading the original version, for RTW 1.2.

Yep, Warmaster Horus is right. You can find Platinum Edition here (http://www.rometotalrealism.org/download.html#1.9-plat) and the instructions for it's installation here (http://www.rometotalrealism.org/download.html). Hope this helps, cheers!

is there any way that the 1.2 version can work with RTW 1.5?

Warmaster Horus
07-10-2007, 08:48
Eh, no.
Sorry.

Damn, there goes 8 hours down the drain.

Xehh II

Are filefront and beaglepc the only way to download it?

Warmaster Horus

If those are the only links provided, yes.

Sorry Xehh, but, as Warmaster Horus said, it is impossible to run the 1.2 version with 1.5. Sorry.

However, there is an alternative which enables you to spend less time downloading the modification and still gain exactly the same benefits. Rather than installing a standard version of Platinum Edition over R:TW, you could use the mod switcher compatible version which is, oddly, smaller in size with the same stunning content. It also comes with the handy ability to be used alongside the almighty EB and all other mods which also utilise the mod switching ability of R:TW. You can download this smaller version here (http://www.rometotalrealism.org/download.html#1.9-plat-modswitch).

I'm sorry about the running problem, hope this helps you, cheers!

I preferred RTR platinum edition. Roman Campaign just seemed more realistic and fun.

I have finally played RTR and, even though you guys don't care i'm going to say what I think about it.l
Ok then, I found it really easy to play, eaiser than EB but I must say the RTR doesn't have nearly enough units, when I went to play a CB I found that the Sarmaratans only have 5 units, that not very good but I do like the RTR hoplites better than the EB ones but thats only because I don't like the over hand look.
So in the end I think i'll stick with EB.

I could have told you that. EB is much more indepth than RTR. I'm definately going to play RTR 7.0 though. That looks very promising.
