i cant deploy my troops as the romani- and only the romani- i can deploy my troops regularly with all other factions. it only crashes during deployment- never have a problem w/ the actual battle. since it isnt during the campaign, i cant post my save game.... do i don't know what to do.... and its depressing because i was looking froward to having huge battles w/ the romani... and now i cant, only sieges, because i dont have to deploy my troops then- i can deploy them during the battle, since the battle really starts when i send my men forward! help please?
after a week of playing, the bug stopped for a day or so, then started happening again. could it have to do with the background script? i usually play custom battles before i play the campaign.
i am running no minimods, only happens during custom battles, and the only thing i edited manually was the romani reform triggers, which i did yesterday.

You crash every time in the deployment phase when doing custom battles where there is no siege, and not in the campaign or if you set up a custom siege battle? Peculiar. I have no idea, the only thing I can suggest is restarting your computer, and reinstalling EB (and possibly RTW) from scratch. Or playing the campaign, which I daresay is the true EB experience.

You said "only happens during custom battles", but I suspected that it wasn't accurate. Still, I have no further suggestions, sorry.

its ok- im gonna be installing eb again from a different server- before i downloaded it from FileFront.

While you wait for it to come down, you could compare the MD5 checksum of your file to the one posted in the installation guide.

ok, so i reinstalled EB, and i still have the crash.
u now wat? i think it has to do w/ the Equites Singulares, b/c it seems whenever i have that unit in that custom army, it crashes.... but i may be wrong.

and wheres the MD5 Checksum?

You could easily check that by playing a custom battle with 1 unit of Equites Singulares on each side.

Some people have got corrupted downloads and had to download it again. If you have problems installing and suspect this may be it, you can make sure that your file is intact by running an MD5 checksum on it, for instance using FastSum (http://www.fastsum.com/support/md5-checksum-utility-faq/md5-checksum.php). The checksum should be 8F70DD15C5A471995682BA3610DDE263. If not, you'll have to download again.

which other faction has equites singulares?

I thought you could play roman vs roman... But anyway, if you run a battle of 1 pantodapoi versus 1 pantodapoi (any eastern faction has them) to verify that it is okay, then play 1 sing. versus 1 panto you'll be sure it's that one if it crashes.

thanks!
but what if that is the case? what if the equites singulares is causing the problem?

Then we take it from there. Perhaps you'll have to use another skin, animation or whatever is causing the problem. Let's pinpoint it first.

got it. just kinda curious, but obviously you arent having this problem, so where did you download Eb from?

Well, I haven't played the Romans in a very long time, so no. But I expect there would be tons of reports if it was a common issue.

i got it! it wasnt the equites singulares! it was the equites praetoriana! so what should i do about it? should i treplace it with the file of the RTW praetorian cavalry? i guess this explains why i havent gotten a crash during campaign- i havent fought w/ any equites praetotiana. i wont anyhow b/c i learned that the Thracian Auxiliary cavalry are so much better!

I'm not really sure, but I think you'll get problems if you use the same model for two units in the same faction... So using the singulares one might not work. I'd say try it though, and if it doesn't you can try some Saka unit instead. It'll look weird but will probably be more stable.

Why not just avoid using Preatorian cavalry. I've seen multiple bugs of different types form the Preatorian Cavalry. IIRC, they are being removed, so it won't matter in the future.

thanks guys! ill just avoid using the praetorians. o ya- i was talking with a friend, and he said he has the same problem as i do, so idk if that means much....

if i understood correctly, the equites praetoriana wont be there anymore? but wouldnt that make EB less historically accurate?

There are model issues with that one; IIRC it's only the model that's going to be replaced - not the unit.
