Since Iphikrates was an Athenian general, I'd imagine that Athenian hoplites would be Iphikratean hoplites.

Well the Iphikratean reforms weren't still embraced as much by all. Plus as we only have so and so many unit spaces we have to be conservative so you can't expect many hoplite units from different regions, unless they were equipped differently or used different tactics (like Syrakosios Hoplitai :wink: )

As for reforms, if you mean pikemen...don't know.

Out of curiosity, what distinguished the Syracusan hoplites from other ones in the EB timeframe? Some hundred and fifty years earlier in the Peloponnesian war they seemed to have been pretty lousy, allthough they had good cavalry by contemporary standards.

For personal use only...You could always add the Athenian Hoplites from RTR Platinum. They sure look sweet fighting alongside the Spartiate.:2thumbsup:

Syrakousai has THE largest military of all independent poleis in EB's timeframe. Their Hoplites have evolved somewhat differently from other hoplite, thanks to the wars with their main enemy (Carthage). :wink:

No, cos it ain't done yet.

Nope. Fight in a less dense formation, slightly longer spears and use a short stabbing sword for close melee which they use beneath their aspis shields. Think Roman legionaries. And Syracusans (alongside Greeks in Magna Graecia) seems to have adapted this before facing Romans, before you ask.

They will probably be at "stats-level" as Pezhetairoi. Not elite, but not levy.
