I've done a quick search, and not found this topic, so I think I may have found a new bug to exploit in Shogun. The situation is as follows.

I was playing Takeda on Expert mode and getting my ass kicked. I'd lost the Eastern Takeda provinces, but on the good side, I'd killed the Mori clan off and taken over the Mori territory. The only problem was that I have very few troops and the Hojos were coming in hard from the east. Anyway, my daimyo lost a battle in Harima province and got trapped in a castle. All my other forces were in the west, where they were fortunately kicking ass and taking names against the Imagawa and Shimazu. However, even after I'd killed both Imagawa and Shimazu daimyos in the following season it would be three seasons plus before I could get troops to Harima.

Anyway, for a laugh I decided to try and break the siege, with the daimyo, 9 YA and 6 YS trapped in the castle!! Against 250+ enemy troops everyone except the daimyo died ... but amazingly he and his 4 bodyguard were unaffected by starvation. So I repeated siege breaking the next season with just the 4 bodyguard! Again he survived. My daimyo survived this way for four seasons till I could relieve the siege [it's not doing me any good, Mr Hojo has sent more forces and is slowly pushing me back]

The question is...can a player daimyo trapped in a castle survive indefinitely this way ??
i.e. by attempting to break the seige every time.

Very interesting question. I don't know, never tried it myself. I suspected you may have found something knew, first time that i have heard about it. Are you playing with the latest patch?

Yeah, this sounds like the designers trying to help you out. Although it's not realistic, it's feasible that the men would starve to let their Daimyo live, but i think the "Daimyo survival" factor and the seige factor would make a daimyo practically invincible (due to luck.)

I suspect this trick works but that there may be a limit on how many times you can do it in the form of battles won/lost. Every time you do this your daimyo loses one more battle, till eventually I suppose he is forced to seppuku himself due to his bad reputation.

[Has anyone had a daimyo forced to commit seppuku due to losing too many battles ?? I've had one seppuku in a castle seige before I discovered this trick, but that was due to the siege not due to battles won/lost ratio]
