Just fought a battle as Numidia and I realised that I sucked at using camels. They didn't scare the horses at all as far as I could see but I know that camels are better than this and I was wondering how everyone used their camels in battle.
A belated welcome to the Org, woad&fangs. ~
Unfortunately, I'm only familiar with camel units from the original MTW -- I never really played Rome long enough to try out the camels in that game. I can tell you that in MTW, camels received a bonus when fighting in desert areas (in addition to the bonus against horses), but I don't know whether RTW's camel units receive this bonus as well.
I find every single Camel unit, apart from the Camel Gunners of M2TW, to be useless.

HERETIC!!!
Use camels as you would horses, just show them a higher degree of respect. Run the horses around in the desert, then pounce. Remember, camels are lightly armoured, not that great against heavy armoured guys in the italian area and such.
I really do think that camels, unless the have an angry moorish guy with a gun on them, are useless.
My advice W&F is don't use camels unless they are Camel Gunners.

Bullocks, no unit is useless on its own only in certain ways they are used (except peasants maybe).

I find Incendiary Pigs useless - I've yet to see them actually run in the right direction when lit :wall:

YEAH!!!!! I'M A MEMBER NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :laugh4: :2thumbsup: :clown: :beam:  :smash: :birthday2: :holiday: :turtle: :drama2: ~:joker: Okay, I'm done. I'll try making the horses chase me across the desert next time. Incendiary pigs are useless because by the time you get them Carthage and The Seleucids are usually extinct. I'm going to keep using camels because they only cost 10 more denarii to recruit than longshield cavalry.

I find incendiary pigs and dogs very useful when you know how to control them......So just try harder...........

I hadn't played much though.... I find that the war dogs die too quickly.... Apart for panicking untrained, low-morale light infantry units (but then why bother?), I don't know.... I guess they are of some use, considering the price and time needed to train them... Well, what matters most is that the game entertains me, anyway....

I always found wardogs to be ridiculously overpowered. There's bugs where sometimes a unit under attack from them won't even fight back properly.
The trick is to not release them right away. Wait untill the time is right, and the enemy aren't ready for them, then they just cut through everything.

Well,i use them to bring doom to those Gallic pigs...........If you wait enough in the battle an release the pigs and the dogs at the right time you can rout many enemy troops......:beam: :2thumbsup:

The dogs are pretty good at running down the retreating/fleeing units. I also found that they were good when you threw them in front of a cavalry charge at stopping it, therefore enabling your infantry not to get run over by the charge and to step in and slaughter the bogged down cavalry. are they in M2TW? I only started playing the game a couple of weeks ago and haven;t seen them yet.
As for the incendiary pigs, you cannot trust them really in RTW. They have a very evil tendancy to run back to your own lines and wreak havoc there...
Can someone please open a thread entitled:
plea for help exterminating stinking Camels
I would do so myself, but, eh, I'm afraid of the evil Camel overlord...

wardogs bad?
In city fights yes thanks to lousy AI and pathfinding...
But in other battles they just rule. I use them in the center, if used on teh flanks risk is they just run after som fleeing unit and are gone for teh erst of teh batytle, in teh center they will keep fighting to the last man... erhm... dog.
Also, they are perfect to recieve a charge, allowing your legionaries to use their spears and then charge in.
