The cynical reason they use to explain Transformers' current popularity is dead-on, IMO. ~;)

And yet fails to take into account how many kids are seeing the movie.

no it doesn´t...

Bay has tapped into a vast and eager market that unites modern teens looking for mindless action with adult viewers eagerly awaiting more $175 million big-screen updates of their childhood toyboxes

if you have flashy special effects and explosions you get kids in the theaters...it´s a fact of life.

Teens=!kids. Under 12=kids. My point stands.

I laughed out loud reading the 'my little pony' bit.

Other propositions:

- Dino raiders (common if ordinary dinosaurs are popular in movies imagine what dino's with lasers can do)

- Mask ( Corvettes that turn into jets, Trucks that turn into a mobile rocket base, ... and of course people who have to wear helmets all the time for no apparent reason at all)

- Ghost busters (no wait, they did this already)

I found the idea of Teddy Ruxpin kicking arse and taking names hilarious, personally.

But for me the sentiment behind it kills any amusement I could get from it. The whole "teh corperate machinez is raping mah childhoodz!!" mentaility (and lead in that Tyco did for both those strips dripped with it). When those shows that you have warm childhood memories of were created by those corporate machines to get you to buy their products. :wall:

Anyway I though Transformers was a great movie. A brain in neutral stuff gets blowed up real good action movie (which Micheal Bay excels at BTW, hence why he was right for the project). And it was perfect for the Transformers license. Which was created to sell Japanese transforming armoured battle suit and micro robot toy molds 23 years ago.

I don´t think the feeling is that at all.....at least for me the feeling I get when I saw the Transformers movie advertised was more of a "why can´t these guys come up with new stuff instead of re-hashing this old crap?".....

I don´t have enough emotional investment on the Transformers to consider this a "rape" :laugh4:

Well considering Transformers as a brand has been around in various forms globally for almost 25 years. The movie really isn't a rehash at all. In fact it's the most original take on them since Beast Wars 10 years ago. The Unicron trilogy is more of a rehash then the Bayformers movie.

I do, and I don't either.
