Hey guys I just installed v1.2 of the game and I am pulling my hair out. I have been fighting rebels like crazy and it is only turn 10. This is just stupid. Tried playing on easy and the exact same thing just weak ones. I just dont like dealing with rebels.

Anyways here is what it is.

Can someone give me a step-by-step walkthrough of how to mod rebels out of the game or at least drastically reduce them. I mean as simple as possible because I am not good with stuff like this.

Thanks a million for any help.

I'm not sure, but it worked in RTW, so...

In the file where you can unlock the factions, descr_strat.txt I think it is, there should be something about rebel appearance rate. Reduce it to 0 and that should do the trick.

All of what is said here is not necessarily true. I played M2 a couple of months ago, so I don't really remember it.

Here's a step-by-step description:

1. I hope you've already run the unpacker and know how to use it. If not, there's a detailed advise in the unpacker readme.
2. Open you M2TW folder.
3. Open data -> world -> maps -> campaign -> imperial_campaign.
4. Open the file descr_strat.
5. Look for brigand spawn value and pirate spawn value.
6. Set them both to 999.
7. Save and exit.
8. Play and forget about rebels.

Personally, I've set them to 40.
The higher the value, the fewer rebels. It was the same in RTW.

999 still spawns quite a few.
I'm using 10000 and in the last 7 campaigns i only saw 1 rebel spawn.

Actually, I never was sure how much you could raise it and the game engine would still take it.

Uh, I was under the impression that the spawn_brigand (or whatever it was) max value range was 0-100, with 0 spawning them like flies and 100 being none to almost none.

Gah! I've never altered that myself, but now I know.

can you do this to a campaign already in progress?

If it is the same as RTW then - no as the game reads that file once (at the start of the campaign).

I am glad some one has asked this as I was getting annoyed at the amount of brigands and pirates about. Although as shown by others they can be a good spawning ground for generals (men of the hour). I will often send a "suicide squad" out to get them and if them come off then you can gtet some good generals out of it. But large and powerful (and constant) stacks are just a pain in the proverbial. :wall:

Quite right Diablo, but I just make the best out of a bad situation and get some crazy high level assassins from any town near a rebel stack. I have had one occassion where I have trained that many assassins up on 1 rebel stack that it vanished eventually.
Like as already been said, they are great for sending low number, high quality units against (Generals, Sherwood archers etc.). They get good experience and some decent Generals.
One question though, does the presence of watchtowers affect the appearance of Rebels?

It might seem like it, as you can see more of them when you got them around. Also, rebels like to be a pain in the arse and capture watchtowers

I'm just referring to the old theory from RTW that they may reduce the amount of rebels spawning. Never knew if it was correct or utter b*llsh*t then, and I certainly don't know now either.

IIRC, it was forts that reduced rebels spawning, not the watchtowers. But I don't know if this works in M2TW.
