Hi I am finding it hard to choose which faction is best after a few weeks of playing. kind of like the England.

While I am here I may as well ask is there any infantry unit which fight amazingly against cavalry units like the spartan hoplites did in Rome total war ??

I take it the huns have the best cavalry units. Any way list your top 3 and why please !

Are you talking playable without modding or not.

If without modding, in this order

1. England - the archers, the historical "villian" of the Middle Ages plus Billmen make England the best to play for me.

2. Uggg, this is hard, OH. Danes - The Danes are a great blitzing army taht is styled the way I play sometimes. I am mostly an infantry only army and their infantry is really second to none.

3. Pretty much anything else, I either haven't played them (All Muslim but Moors, Russia, Sicily) or didn't like them (Venice, HRE, Poland.)

With the Custom Campaign Mod, its for sure like this.

1. England - same as above
2. Timurids - Panzerphants are just awesome plus evenly well rounded elite troops in my opinion.
3. Aztecs - Lack of building a techtree makes building a quick but capible army very quick, cheap and can do anywhere. If they could just get the religious rebellions down and add a few agents like a diplomat, they would be more fun.

My top three are easy.

1) HRE. Teutonic Knights, and crazy infantry. Plus I love the accent and the ubermensch attitude. Serpentines are evil on the battlefield, and Reiters are a blast.

2) Danes. Vikings in all their glory. Obudshaer are the bomb. Infantry that can take a cavalry charge and make horsemeat out of it, and still kill dismounted knights too.

3) England. Longbows ftw. Retinue Longbows even outclass England's Arqubusiers. The lack of late-grade spears doesn't matter when you have STAKES.

1. England. Longbows, pikes and heavy swordsmen, how can you *not* love it? I can win most battles with just 1 longbowman troop, let alone 6.

2. Danes. HUGE infantry armies is my favorite. I'm Norwegian myself, so I'm kinda close linked to the Danes. I love the viking troops, and seeing 3000+ bloodthirsty big blondes storming at you must be quite unnerving.

3. Venice. LOVE the militia. To be compleatly honest, most of my fights are with my city milita, and this is so much easier when they have great stats.

1. hungarians: Location location, plus a nice HA unit in the hungarian nobles, talk about a can do unit. Real fun faction to play.

2. Danes: as stated, the best suited faction for blitzing the AI early for a fast win. There infantry is excellent, and there are plenty of targets.

3. Russia: for me this is a carry over from MTW and novgorod. Love the Russians, nice little faction to turtle with, plenty of rebels to conquer and you do rub noses with Poland regularly.

Honarable mention: The Turks, again location and HA's !

1. Turks: Nothing like a faction closest to Mongols And Timurids. Oh and Janissaries and Sipahis rock. I even modded some Turkish uniforms and added some new units to make my new campaign better.

2. HRE: Not so much for their tech tree than their german attitude. Honestly, they have plainest tech tree of any Europeans but those crazy speeches are great and worth a listen.

3. None...I only played 2 campaigns....

1. danes... I just like vikings, that's all:)

2. HRE, trying to create a huge empire with these guys just feels.... realistic;)

3. England, they have that medieval knight feeling of fantasy battles...

1. Moors - I love their starting location and late game selection of units.
2. Russia - Dvors just rule. I like HAs and they have arguably the best. Also, almost everything has AP.
3. Turks - I like their unit selection as well. I don't like their starting location that much, though.

1. The Danes. For all the reasons stated above, except for the fact that I can't get the Halberd units to beat anything in melee. I must be doing something wrong, but it's ok, since I have Norse Archers, the sickest early game unit around.

2. Hungary. They have good HA, Catholic Knights and Pavise Crossbows. The only downside is that you need a Fortress for a good spear unit. The supposed "Lacks offensive infantry" -weakness isn't really there since DFKs are good enough on the offense.

3. Egypt. Because of their early Militia. Getting Archer Militia as tier 1 instead of useless Town Militia is huge and it only gets better with the tier 3 Saracen Militia. The rest of their Militia is good too.

1. Byzantine Empire. Why? It's ROME!

2. Spain. Muslims to fight, musketeers, jinetes, secure position with easy access to the Med.

3. Venice. Italian militia, venetian infantry, great ships, and musketeers.
