View Full Version : Knights
I see the chivalric knights and i think, holy jesus, these guys are pretty damn cool. But the Cataphracts (kataphracti i believe, but i prefer aoe2 terms) suck anus (pardon my language) is there a reason, and also, what will be the most powerful mounted unit, heavy horse from england?

Most powerful Cav. unit will be probably the Royal Guard for England or the Sipahi of the Porte for the turks.
I wouldn't be betting on the Turkish cavalry. Look more towards the German area since they will probably have the heaviest cav.
I don't think the Byzantines ever got into plate armor much. By the latter half of the game's time frame they were behind in armor technology.

Well, actually that would depend on the time period...Kataphracts were pretty powerful until the invention of plate...political intrigue and a series of weak leaders is what caused the fall of Byzantium, not lack of military strength...of course those weak leaders caused the military to fall into disuse, but if it were not for the Thematic way of creating armies, it would have stood much longer than it did...
Are the chivalric knights up there in anyway?

Yeah the Germans probably have the best Knights.

I keep hearing that the best mounted unit stats come from the Lancers and the Late Royal Knights...
Who gets the Lancers?

Indeed they are not very strong versus the Late Royal Knights you have when you play against them in the demo.
But I created a MOD where you are Byzantine against Egyptians, and trust me the Kats. are very formidable. They can defeat Saracen Infantry (60 against 120) which are anticavalry.
Also I believe the Kats. are much lower on the tech-tree. They should be able to go toe to toe with any early knightunit.

In this picture it shows what looks like an extremely well armored cav unit, what is it?

Only cav unit i see is the generals unit and they are horse archers.
But they are covered in silver, is there a reason?
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand they have lances, so new opinion

Oh those ones, they could be any thing from lancers to chivalric knights to royal guards.

Most powerful cavalry will probably be the Lancer. England won't get it since the review didn't mention them, and the HRE probably won't either since German cavalry wasn't considered very highly except for the Holy order knights.

I'm pretty Bored. But we can't tell before the Game comes out.
well that sure clears everything up........
who gets gothic knights? HRE? they stack up pretty well against late royals. how does their piercing attack work? negates the enemies armor bonus or somethin?

In the Faction Association column in unit stats: SPANISH,ARAGONESE
SH, ChivalricKnights are very good particularly when dismounted against mounted troops. Hence them being quite expensive.
I can't help it. Whenever I see these mounted tin men, I simply MUST refer to them as "kinigits"...
And if they are "English", then "silly English kinigits"...
