Me too,because Im the Scourge.
I think all three are quite importent. If you regionalize the territories and the people living in them you can again regionallize these three triats...so if you want to subjugate the infidel (I am english)...you might want dread rather than piety...if you want to pacify the french...perhaps you need piety...be helpful with the pope as well...I think he might be a problem (i want to conquer the world) another interesting topic would be the effects of excommunication...but back to subject I don't know what the other means but you get the picture...balancing adds fun, game play and replayability...
Dread, looks cool, is cool, whats its use?

I believe acumen is your Influence.
Acumen is astuteness and intelligence.
astuteness and intelligence, thats not hgonna help anyone, deporting, conscripting and masacring is though...

Intelligence won't perticulary help you as a King no, but for your generals and subjects it will (giving them certain titles will be bettered if they have a greater Acumen).
Among other things, an astute king would be harder to murder. Maybe acumen helps to determine defense against assassins. It should.

The islam dudes will have alot of acumen. The Stupid Europeans won't.
Me don't like dread cause if you have a king who has alot of dread and he dies and the next heir doesn't have alot of dread,it could cause a civil war. Or somethin' like that.
I like dread, as I have stated

If you got high dread, your enemies fear you greatly! In some instances, an enemy army will rout just at the sight of you. And your men are more obediant. But it's not good politically check this out:

I'm going to rule as a nice king, at least the first time I play through it. I doubt I'll just kill prisoners mercilessly unless the particular captives are of a faction giving me a hard time.

I think I want Acumen the most, cause obviously my first thought was Dread, as thats the best one...but I think that has more to do with your own subjects being scared of you. And piety....well I can't off the top of my head think of why I'd want that...I'm sure theres reasons though. I guess the Pope might like you better...that wouldn't be my first priority though.

The evilest (is that a word) guy yo'll ever meet.
Ok...
For those of you who have the demo go to the 'loc' folder and look up the Tool_tips tile. In there you will see all sorts of stuff, including Dread, Piety and Acumen.
Acumen is the ability to govern a province. So obviously you want the general with the Vice 'Good Runner' and 6 in Acumen to govern a province far from the front.
Personally I want Piety I think... but killing the prisoners is tempting.

I want dread! If it's high enough, the enemy may route off the field without touching you! Plus you got everyone else in check!

of the three . . . it seems that acumen would be best suited to gaining $$$ for your faction . . . so I think I'd like that best . . . besides . . . if I don't have piety, that's a perfect excuse for me to go on a crusade and cut a swath across . . . somebody . . . I don't much care who http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif. If I don't have dread, it's all the more reason for me to take to the field and crush an army or two http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif . . . nope, it's acumen for me http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
Im with emp. u need dread, lots of it, slaughter innocents and ememies alike, cos then battles become easier!
How can you acquire such things? I realize it is through choices made in the game but how quickly do they rise or fall? Is it gained like honor or throught some other unknown means unique to MTW?

I am going to play it for awhile and probably choose the one that will make the game the most challenging.
----
And since I lack piety or dread, and already have plenty of acumate, akumun , plenty of inteligents, ummm since I am almost above average IQ I don't see the point in playing the same in a King.
I dont have any.....
CEPT DREAD! everyone fears me and my giga-posting skills!
And your poor grammar.
At any rate, doesn't dread hurt a populations happiness? I think in actuality you need a good balance between them all. To me it seems like the higher your dread perhaps the lower your piety would get. I'm sure it's a pretty complicated system.
Yeah they would hate you if you were Dreaded hehe... but they would fear you so much that they would stay in line. Trouble is if your succesor is a whimp... REBELLION!!!

Well.... As Machiavelli once wrote in The Prince, It is better to be feared by your people than be loved by them. I guess dread is more advantageous for someone who is looking to conquer the world rather than concentrate on the economic aspect of the game.
But once your dreadfull king dies (more effctive if he was killed) there could be civil war, unless your hier has large dread too.
------------------
I am the law and you can't beat the law.
Acumen directly affects how much cash you make in a province so its important.
dread looks cool but ill go with something else because you can get alot of money from ransoms.
piety is what i will use first time round probably (or maybe acumen and hire lots of mercs) because it will affect how good you are with crusades, your relations to the pope and the support of your people. of course i might decide to change when a succession happens...

I agree with Turken once again. If your, say a Muslim ruler bent on European conquest, the fact that you are a relatively nice guy doesen't help the fact that you are trying to conquer these people's lands and perhaps trying to convert them to a foreign religion. Be nice at home, be ruthless abroad!
I think the attributes need to be rounded rather than linear...a king must be able to find a way to best use a VERY evil man for example...
