I think ship battles are the most exciting thing!
Galleon:Total i can see it now.
I thought ships would have added double to the game, maybe to much programming, whjat a shame!!

they it would involve a lot of programming, it would take great computer to run such a thing I'de imagine...

They could do ship battles.....if we were willing to wait an extra seven or eight months for it, which we aren't http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

*starts chanting* expan-SION, expan-SION, expan-SION, expan-SION, expan- . . .

*pauses*

*looks around* . . .

*realizes he's chanting by himself* . . .

. . . *gets embarrassed and decides to get off the stage, go sit in a corner and wait for MTW to come out - blindly hoping that CA will decide to come up with a patch to allow naval battles.*

I think naval battles would be fun but it would be like a battle another battle map and perhaps be somewhat difficult...perhaps limiting the size of those involved or the hieght at wich you veiw them would be possible...perhaps men boarding one another...if anything we should have movies llike the ninja and stuff or ship wrecks that send your entire armored army to the briney deep!

can you build a fleet though?

Naval battles are so different from land battles that they would most likely require an entirely different combat engine. Not to mention all kinds of surrounding programming for wind, currents, graphics, sounds, etc.

Although it would be cool as hell.

What I really want to see is TOTAL WAR: PIRATES
or
TOTAL WAR: THE HIGH SEAS

that would be a good start....by that time they will probably have TOTAL WAR: CIVIL WAR
and w/ the High Seas engine they could easily mesh the two for some kick ass Total War: World War I action.

Keep your fingers crossed, we are talkin 2-3 years out.

Naval games don't have a good commercial history, so it's unlikely that's en route. Pity that there couldn't have been some kind of sub-game though- but that's the same as arguing there should have been a Ninja sub-game in STW.

Quote men boarding one another[/QUOTE]

lol

it would be a cool add-on to a great game but the TW scale isn't quite right for naval battles. i'm not bothered that they didn't make it into the game

I played a game based on Roman conquest years ago and you could have fleet battles...if one fleet had one hundred ships and the other had 50, you fought with your flagships and after you had won or lost the computer fought witht he rest and decided the battle...if was quite interesting at the time...

If you think about it Naval Warfare wouldn't be that fun. There isn't as much strategy involved and there's no terrian to take advantage of. It would mostly just be like an automated battle for the most part unless it was very well implemented.

I dissagree, I belive that if the ships were big!(the size of an average forest in shogun) and the men were same scale, it be cool!

In my opinion MTW will be so different to STW and MI for better that is that naval battles will just give the player too many options and other parts of the game will be forgotten.

But hey! thats just my 2 cents... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Agree.

It's much better to focus on certain really necessary features and get them right, as opposed to please the insatiable appetite of general public (which, by definition, is impossible anyway).

Really the greater percentage of combat is going to take place in mainland Europe. There isn't a single satellite nation so to speak. Even England starts off with a little territory in France.

I'd love to see it.. but to make it good it would just take far too long.

They should have at least have clashes of armies with boats (not exactly naval battles) on a nearby beach. That's what it would likely be around that time. It is easily done, no change in the game engine whatsoever, only need new maps for the beach battles.

I suppose if we can implement ships like spies and assasins we can all be content with the current decision...Christmas only comes once a year...
