Why Why Why, they have like 3000 units and you only have like 600

ummmm....What last battle? there are plenty!

he means the last battle in the demo i guess: jst concentrate ur forces on one point (and use flanking), once you get one unit running more are likely to follow (meanwhile don't forget to cover your own flanks aswell)

Or you can change all the units on your side to billmen.

I had only 424 men including Billmen and Royal Knights, and won!

jst try a few more times and don't start editing the demo, it would mean that you can't beat the 'system'.

I'm copying what verysoon said to me.

Take a look at the files on your computer. You do this by right clicking on the START button and clicking explore. Scroll down to program files/Total War/Medieval TW DEmo. Inside are all the files on the TW demo. In the battle folder, theres a batinit folder. In that are the Historical battle and tutorial folders. These contain all the battles in the demo. By changing the text files you change the game. If you wan't to read those files you have to open them with notepad, Just click on the files and when a bowx appears with variuos programs on your comp. Scroll down and to notepad and you'll be able to see whats in them. Just be careful. Now go to the Jaffa battle in Historical Battles and go to the richard file, you can change the units by changin the names of. Example: you scroll down and you see spearmen some Where, Get rid of that and type in Billmen. For more questions ask the modders at the mod page on the Sword Dojo. Ask them About Modding cause I don't wan't to type any more.

i was able to beat it on the first try, have ur arcehrs rain fire on the opposing force, dont move ur men let them come to u, when u think it is time, charge, but single units one at a time (i started on the left) as u route units slowly start to surrond the remaining ones and close them off, they will route and chase them off! good luck!

They mainly attack the middle, and your left side. So do what everyone else said, and use the Feudal Foot Knights to fill in any gaps. I use the left unit to fill in, and then the right unit as support for whatever group needs it most. Don't be lured into attacking them when they're very close to you, but just standing there. They usually move a bit closer and then thats the time to charge after them. Just keep your archers busy until they do. And after of course...

Go for saladin and kill him then the whole army will be little sissys in battle.

Although outnumbered, it didn't seem so hard the one time I've tried it (yes, I've only played the demo's battles once...I know...there's something wrong with me. I just don't have the time).

As others have said, concentrate on disrupting them. Pick a point, hit it hard, and flank it. Get them to run and the morale will start to ebb away from their side. Rince and repeat.

My one flaw was not watching poor little Richie Lionbrains...who, drunk on the impending victory, took off on his own to chase a group down and walked into a crowd of Saracens who weren't yet broken. I was prepping my units for a final push to scare whatever troops remained when suddenly the 'Your general's dead' message came up...which took me by surprise since I left him in the rear.

I may have accidentally told him to go off, but if he didn't, I'm glad the developers finally got the whole 'impetuous' aspect down. Commanders running off for their own glory has been a bane in any undisciplined army.

It really depends on what you like to do. Want to crush their armies and make them cry for mommy? Want to save as many of your men as possible? Or do you just want to kill Saladin and laugh as you dance over his grave?

I tried to save as many as my men as possible. Just bide your time and strategize. They aren't set up in the perfect defensive position in the beginning. Too thin for the number of people coming in. I made long thin 1 row lines of archers out in front and had them pepper the enemy with arrows as they came in(choose your targets wisely) then I set up an interior defense perimeter with the(I think they were polearms) then had my footknights sit right behind the polearms. As they came closer I pulled my archers inside of the perimeter in tight formations and let loose on formations with their combined effort annihilating entire units. Then when they finally reached me I had my right side push and my archers drop their bows and attack. Pushing them out then rolling up their flank after they become disheartened.

i beat it pretty easy the first time, as long as you don't let your men start running after routeing enemies, you should be okay. i shoved my...um...the smaller groups of whatever foot dudes they are in the gaps between the middle other foot guys (mind blank...help http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif ) that way, when you charge the enemy, it's easy to have them flank the unit, and mak'em run off. most of the the saladin is kinda dumb and doesn't send his whole force as once, just kinda runs in circles, you can take out quite a few with archers while they're doing this. and once you get a few route'in enemies, it'll spread like a domino effect, and pretty soon the whole army is fleeing and ye've won! yay!

Narf, you will wonder why you thought this was so hard after you employ the right tatics, and that's what makes the Total War games so good.

Best way to win is to move into one of the corners of the castle front. Put your archers in 2 lines from the tower towards the gate crossbows at front of 2 lines, then have Spearmen in front. Put Knights at end of line near gate.
Could put more detail, but I am sure you will work out the finer points.

Main thing as most people say is not to go chasing the enemy, well not to far anyway at first. Stay in formation and position until you have most of Saladin's army beat. By this time Saladin has most likely run into a spear. Then chase them off but don't let your mounted knights get too far ahead of rest of your army.

Best to use them sweeping from side to side rather than straight pursuit, bit like a sheep dog!

Simple really. Then when you want to make it harder or try other battles, go take a look in mod section.

you're already encouraging this guy to cheat before MTW is even released! wondering how it's gonna be when we all get online if you keep this up.

GAH!

Vanya, in His infinite wisdom, selected Ricky's army and put them all into wedgies. When the Turcomans got nearby, He ordered a full charge by double-clicking on poor old Saladin with the whole army selected.

It was a glorious site. The armored crusader wedgies ripped through the unsuspecting infidel cavalry and branded them Thorns of Satan by uttering the Good Word in their midst. In so doing they elevated their pathetic souls to something salvable as they gutted them; it was a baptism in blood! GAH!

Sure the greasy infidel cavalry swept in behind the forward-charging wedgies and encircled them. Sure they hacked away on all sides. But the Shield of Jesus protected God's chosen from the instruments of Dr. Evil. That day, Eden sprouted from the dusty sands as the barren land was seeded by the blood of infidels being saved.

GAH!

The final toll was a glorious 988 infidels saved at the cost of a mere 114 souls ascending to sainthood.

GAH!

GAH!

More likely it's 588 souls (including Richard the Wedge) ascending to sainthood at the cost of 114 infidels saved from utter abormination?

It's part of the MTW diet plan. All those hard battles make you sweat and squirm then the game crashing makes you jump around in fury. If you don't lose 2 pounds in your first week then exchange the game for a labrador's weight in vegetables.

Control-Z activates the Chain Lighting command for your general and it works well in the last mission. Also, your general can morph into a giant Dung Beetle -- much like generals often did in mideivel times -- and then slay the enemy with his sharpened sword of poo. Stop drinking.

i'll remember that when some n00b uses an unlimited cash against you in a mp battle. "it's not cheating, it's editing to make it easier for me to win" http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hi Youssof. Actually any CD-keys, warez or MP cheats get deleted off as soon as they are found. SP 'cheats' such as .conan. are not.

Also there is an entire forum on modding as Stephen was hinting at. And our most honourable members are disproportionatly high among the modders.

So in short yes mulitplayer cheating is frowned upon. Modding is considered very cool http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/cool.gif and honourable.

was not meant very seriously, jst don't get what the fun is in edeting the game to make it easier. i mean you can't beat the Al then u edit it and then you can win, what's the satisfaction in that? i prefer the enjoyment of winning it after 99 tries. (although in practice it was more like 1 try http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif)

No worries but the majority of the editing has been done to make it harder and more of a challenge. Just the learning curve may be a bit steep for newbies so they may need an easier battle.

GAH! Since y'all are talking about MODding now...

Let me take a second to thank Choco-san for the wonderful MTW demo battles he has made. I tried a couple last night after a slow day on the EA foyer... All are lots of fun!

I made Saladin harder to beat, I gave him 400 more men or more, but then I gave myself 400 more billmen and longbowmen.

NARF
07-23-2002, 22:13
So basically, you made the battle the same as it was before, same odds, only more men

Stephen Hummell
07-23-2002, 22:24
Yeah, but if you use mods you have different maps and different units.
