View Full Version : Opinion - Stainless Steel Mod 4.0 ?
I have been playing LTC since I got the game and its a great mod. I am at the point where I'd like some more regions/cities/castles/factions to play around with.
Been floating around TWcenter and have watched this mod closely.
anyone out there playing it? I'd like to know what you think. I spent hundreds of hours playing the XL mod for MTW and am looking for something similar in content.
Stainless Steel looks pretty dam impressive, yet I have heard little about it here at the org.
Anyone?

I downloaded it and tried it out for a few nights.
I liked it overall. But I ended up dumping it. Casualties are much higher, which I don't mind, but any unit that is wounded ends up bright red all over, like a unit that's been killed, but really bright. It was far too distracting to me.
I don't mind having high casualties, but I couldn't stand all the Crimson Guard troops I ended up with. :P
If it weren't for that one, small, highly annoying detail, I'd probably still be playing it.

What do you mean exactly? The slot icon when you view the troops in a castle, or when they are deployed on the field?
This seems odd dosent it, whats the purpose of that feature?
Of all the mods I have looked at this one seems to be the most comprehensive to date, lots of new regions anyway.
Why not try the latest version of LTC with the 3 new custom campaigns in it: Hundred Years War, Reconquista and Italian City States.

Just on the battlefield. You know how each individual will get a small red mark when he's wounded? And if he's killed, he turns kind of red over most of his body, like he's really bloody, and then he falls to the ground?
Well, in Stainless Steel, the bloody effect is bright red, and any dude that's wounded looks covered in blood. So you end up having mobs of bright red guys fighting.
I've been playing 3.2 for a while now and it seems to be better than vanilla. And it does have quite a few new regions.
Regarding 4.0 - after reading the SS forum reaction I have decided to refrain from using it for now. Too many minimods added with unpleasant consequences like weird traits popping up too often... Also, I'm not sure if I'd like the supply system that comes for Byg's Grim Reality mod. I'll keep an eye on it and maybe try it after it gets first patch. :-)
And, Odin, right, XL was AWESOME! :-)

I'm playing 3.2 and I like it.
I've been playing LTC also, but I'm doing a Portugese SS campaign as I was waiting for a couple of fixes with LTC to be finished.
I've not had any problems with SS so far, very smooth, AI is pretty agressive, especially if (like me) you take a more passive approach to the game and don't blitz (which is harder - SS has a few more cities added in, and most of the rebel cities have enlarged garrisons).
I don't *really* like the Knights Templar, but they're not the easiest faction to play either, starting with one castle in the middle of the holy land - however the one diplomat by Rome certainly adds a 'get-out'.

As I read through the new features of the new version it didnt have 3 key features I am now looking for in the long grand campaign, if it does please correct me because I prefer a product I know then shopping for something new.
1. More regions (with more cities, castles)
2. More factions
3. Different start dates (high, late)
Items 1 and 2 are most important to me in a long campaign. The custom campaigns looks cool and I will likely try them because your mods are first class IMHO.
That said, I'd love to start in 1080 as the irish, or Kiev Rus, or Bohemia and get the full long campaign.
Does LTC 3 do this? Or a future LTC?
